Give it some time. I'm going to be running 1 TB drives in my new rig that I'm building before the end of the year.

Much hotter, but check reseller ratings first. Looks like most of the dissatisfied reviews have been because of rebate or shipping issues, and that doesn't seem to apply to this product.

If you're in the market for a 1TB drive, why not pick up the Seagate 750GB for ~$240? If all you need is storage, it's cheaper per gig on that. And still 75% of its capacity. The 500GBs are even cheaper per gig, of course, but if you're low on space and can't have more than one or two HDDs, then they're out.

Regardless, $599 for a 1TB drive is WAY not hot. That $399 from PCConnection is lots warmer. That IS MSRP, after all. This will likely come down in price sooner rather than later.

Oh man that is a lot of date to cry about if the drive goes south on you 😱

You must be from the South. 😉

LOL, just moved here from the north, that was just me waking up and not proof reading as always before hitting the reply button 😛

Thats why you buy two. And with this bullstttt price, that's out of the window. They are charging what i wanted to pay for two, for one. Bleh.

It's a hot deal if you cannot find a Hitachi 1TB 32mb for less money. Very simple.
It's not a hot deal if the price is $200 over msrp, even simpler. This is a good post, just wrong category.

You posted three times on why you didn't think the deal was hot. One post would have sufficed . If you don't like the deal. Move on.

Here it is for $377 shipped. Out of stock though.

Newegg seems to be one of the only merchants that actually has stock. So the price goes up. Supply and Demand at work.

By the time you finish formating that sucker, the 2.5 TB drives will be out and the 1TB drive will cost $49.99@newegg.com

Ouch. Nice price gouging Newegg.

Atleast the release of this 1TB drive will hopefully push the 750GB Seagate down 😛

1000GB converts to ~931GiB, and that's what Windows will report. NTFS should take up negligible amount of additional space that varies based on your file distribution.

Go easy on him, he is new with only 9 posts. On second thought, he could be a newegg.com employee.

Nice article on Hitachi's product page HERE.

Anandtech Declares Hitachi's One-Terabyte Hard Drive "The Best 7200 RPM Drive Tested"
Wed 09 May, 2007

With Excellent Performance Characteristics, Deskstar 7K1000 Hard Drive Earns Gold Editor?s Choice Award

SAN JOSE, Calif. ? May 9, 2007 ? Following a series of reviews performed by AnandTech, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi) today announced that the one-terabyte Deskstar? 7K1000 hard drive (HDD) earned the Web site?s top honor: the Gold Editor?s Choice award. Citing excellent write performance and sustained data transfer rates, among other performance metrics, AnandTech concluded the Deskstar 7K1000 hard drive was ?the best 7200 RPM drive we have tested to date.?

AnandTech, a leading source for hardware reviews and industry news conducted a series of reviews of the Deskstar 7K1000 hard drive including the single hard drive in a competitive benchmark and two one-terabyte HDDs in a RAID configuration. In AnandTech?s tests, the Deskstar 7K1000 hard drive delivered unmatched performance across a number of industry-standard benchmarks and found the drive to be one of the quietest they had ever tested.

Specifically, in the PCMark05 benchmark, the Deskstar 7K1000 hard drive scored better than the Web site?s previous top performer and reviewers noted that Hitachi?s drive was ?a worthy adversary? to faster RPM drives. AnandTech concluded the review series by stating, ?For these reasons, we award the Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 our Gold Editor?s Choice award and highly recommend the purchase of this drive if you are currently looking for a high-capacity drive with performance to match.?

?We are honored to receive AnandTech Gold Editor?s Choice award for our one-terabyte hard drive. Once again, the drive has proved to be superior in performance and capacity across industry benchmarks,? said Jose Antelo, vice president, marketing and strategy, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies. ?Throughout the development of our one-terabyte drive, we channeled our resources to ensure we effectively maximized capacity, performance and reliability, knowing full well we would have to answer to high-end PC and enterprise users who increasingly demand more space to create, share and store their digital content.?

Delivered to retail customers at the end of March 2007, the Deskstar 7K1000 hard drive is designed for desktop computers, media-center PCs, gaming machines, digital video recorders, personal storage and other applications requiring ultra-high storage capacities. It is built on the industry?s most reliable perpendicular magnetic recording technology, allowing Hitachi to extend capacity beyond that available in current 3.5-inch hard drive products. Hitachi 's one-terabyte hard drive features a 3.0Gb/s Serial-ATA (SATA) interface and large 32 MB data buffer to provide the performance required for these high-end PC applications.

I'm waiting until these are under $100, then I'll buy 2 and RAID them. That might be in a couple of years, though. 😛
