I bought one at the Fremont, CA Fry's. Apparently they have a 3 year limited warranty, which is why I dropped the hammer on the deal. These days most retail drives (Maxtor & Western Digital, at least) only have a one year warranty.

Yup, the 3 years warranty makes this drive more worthy.

You are scoring 67000 in Sandra with an ide raid setup. Sounds like bs to me.

i don't think maxtor has a 10K rpm SATA product--only WD has one.

Picked mine up Saturday morning at Plano Fry's. Weren't many 180s left, but there sure were two pallets of 60s @ $60.... Wonder why that was? :)

On a side note - 3 year warranty is cool, but with drive prices regularly being as low as they are, the only thing I truly care about is reliability for the sake of the avoidance of the inconvenience of a drive dying. Sending a drive off to be repaired is more likely to cost more in time and effort than just buying a replacement at that time.

Does anyone know where the UPC is on this drive?? I sent in what I thought was the UPC but they told me it was the wrong one. Now I'm sending another copy that has the outpost.com item number on it.

Is it the label on the Static bag itself?!

Just call in (866-880-9657). If you sent in the 10 digit bar code from the box (PN: 829686000209), you sent in right one. My rebate was rejected for a similar bogus reason and was fixed a couple of minutes after I called in. I usually don't have problems with Parago, but they seem to be slipping lately.

If you're having a problem with the White Bear Lake rebate, I have no idea. Both of my smaller Hitachi rebates to that address went through without problems.

I bought this hard drive back in december and still haven't received my rebates. Has anyone else gotten theirs? Is there a place online to check the status of the rebates? Thanks.

I just received a postcard stating that my rebate was invalid due to a missing original UPC code. This is the message on rebateshq.com

$90 MIR with Purchase of Hitachi 200GB 8MB P-ATA at Fry's
Submission Type: MAIL
Date Received: 04-04-2004
Status: Post Card Printed
Status Detail: We did not receive the 200GB 8MB P-ATA.Original UPC for this product. Please send it to: ATTENTION RESUBMISSIONS, PO BOX 028516 Miami, FL 33102-8516.

What's up with that?! Firstly, the drive was a 180GB. Secondly, how the hell am I gonna send in the original UPC now if I already sent it in?!

Call them up. They will ask you to send in a copy of the info you send them. You did make a copy of everything, right??? Good luck.

couple weeks ago they had a 200gb for $80, with like $130 worth in rebates. well i just got a post card today from hitachi, telling me they are rejecting my $90 rebate, even though i followed instructions very carefully, and had everything on time. they say something wrong with the upc and wrong date. yeah just wanted to share my bad experience before other people get on in this deal. anyone know what to do?

It's not hard to get a good AFTER REBATE price these days, but you have to tie-up a sizeable chunk of change in rebates, and hope that you'll actually get it.

=sigh=

Circuit City has the 250GB WD 7200RPM 8MB cache SE model IDE HD for just $159.99, no rebates involved.

For those people having trouble with Hitachi rebates:

Come to your local Fry's and ask to speak to a CSR that handles rebates. The CSR asked me for copies of my rebate materials, I took down her fax no., came home faxed it to her, and in the next few days everything got straightened out and the status was changed on the rebate web page. I already got and cashed the check from Hitachi. At least, that was the situation at my local Fry's. YMMV. It's my impression that they'll help you with any Fry's-related rebates.

What's not known is why they put the wrong part numbers on both drives. The 200 shares the same "model number" as the 250.

Is it possibly an OEM-specific model, one with a slightly lower capacity due to higher number of defect sectors, and got sold "out the back door" to Fry's, when they are reselling them? is it some sort of retail box or just the bare drive? (I assume bare drive at this point.)

Edit: My mistake, original post said "Retail box drive".

Why? These Hitachi drives are some of the fastest on the market right now for IDE drives.
If only there was a Fry's out on the E.C... :( I used to love the performance of my 75GXP. *sniff*

Hey, my buddy had the same thing. He just called up Hitachi and they seemed to know about the situation and said that they would be sending it out. He hasn't got it yet but you never know.

Please see my posts on the REBATE TRACKING THREAD. Looks like lots of people are having this problem. I just spoke to the Rebate center this afternoon after getting a post card today saying my $90 rebate was declined. They agreed over the phone to honor my rebate (said it would still take 4-6 weeks).

Good Luck!

I also bough this drive and not yet received my $90 rebate.

I tried to follow up with FRYS, but they are asking me the rebate form. Unfortunately I lost my copy of rebate form. I appreciate if anybody can email me scan of $90 rebate form to travik@comcast.net.
