Actually, I just picked it up and mine does have an 8 MB cache. The whole stack of drives at my CompUSA (Boulder, CO) were all 8 MB cache models. Seems like a really nice drive ? MUCH quieter than the 80 GB WD it's replacing (which itself was a replacement under warranty and is clicking menacingly like its predecessor did right before dying, hence the need for this upgrade).
More sadly, I just realized my FireWire enclosure suffers from the "I can't read more than 137 GB worth of data" malady, so right now I'm short over 20 GB in formatted space. Trying to find a firmware update for this enclosure; otherwise I'll have to find a new one of those too. Ugh. Anyone know of any deals on FireWire enclosures that don't suffer from this problem? I tried out my roommate's (Oxford chipset) and his recognized the whole thing.
