I knew everything was going too smoothly. I am in the process of building two identical systems (rather publicly, for those who have visited my site). Everything had been going together far better than anticipated... until now.

I was in the process of setting up the second system when I attempted to access the internet (thru onboard LAN to my cable modem) and it was a big no go. This drive is an identical "Ghost" from the first system I built. The first system has no trouble connecting with the same configuration (and I mean EXACTLY the same).

I switched the HD from the good system into this one and still no go. I think I have a pretty ironclad case here for the mobo being bad, but maybe, just maybe someone here knows some reason that this might happen other than a bad mobo.

Even if bad, I may not send it back since the system is going to my brother who lives in a rural area with no high speed internet. Besides it probably costs more in shipping and restocking fees than just buying a PCI NIC. Still, I want the damn thing to be right.

any ideas?

Do you get any lights when you plug the cable into the nic? Can you ping the nic? Does the device manager show your nic as operating properly?
