I was in Longhorn Steak house today with my sister and ordering lunch when some a$$hole backed his truck into my car and put a huge dent in two places. I have called the police but wanted to know what could be done about the situation from ATOTer's :( Before he walked out, he had said that he was constructing a houise down the road, he was driving a black truck and we got a look on his face as well. The police have said that they will assign a detective to this case but is there any chance that my insurance is going to cover this? I dont have collision insurance, only liability and comprehensive. Also any tips on how to fix my car cheaply so that it doesnt look that bad? :( Thanks!

Drive around and see if you can find the house he's working on. Or, ask the staff at the restaurant, maybe he goes there a lot. Don't count on the cops.

Some guy backed into my Grand Am back in April. My car is still busted. Does that answer your question?

I talked to the staff of the restaurant and they said that he was working "down the road" on a house, in fact he owned a construction company. He does come there occasionally but no one knows his name. He also paid in cash or else that would have helped me out.

Anyone want to form a posse with me? ;) Anyways, is there any way I can find out where construction permits have been issued in the last 6 months for houses around a particular area? That might really help me. Also I will be driving around the area at night to find out where the construction is going on so that I can keep checking on that area. Will be putting pics up soon, the damage is not THAT bad thank god!

Talk to your city building department. Also, tell the police that information, and look in your local sunday paper to see the real estate ads for the new communities in that area.

My car was not a very high profile car by any standard but it was very well maintained and now its all gone because of this bastage:| I dont even have the money to fix it though I would mind knowing if anyone can take a guess how much it would cost to repair.

If he owns a construction company, chances are he has got some money..

I am willing to think he would pay..

But hey, what the hell do i know?

Any witnesses to this accident? It's Hit and Run, hopefully they suspend his driving license for at least 6 months. :|

Cops don't even like getting involved in accidents that happen in parking lots - they consider it "private property" and will try to put it on the back burner.

Best thing you can do? Be your own sleuth - keep trying to track him down, and hopefully he'll still have the dents on his truck that'll match paint with your own...if there's any damage. You can always sue him in Small Claims court, if all else fails.
