I just got this processor and motherboard a few days ago. It runs stable at 3.00GHz but I can't get any more out of it without crashes. Right now at 388x8 I can't run any stability tests without errors. The previous owner of this chip said he had it at 3.7Ghz on water. I've got a Zerotherm Nirvana cooler with AS5, so heat isn't an issue yet. I'm at 1.4vCore and +.2v on the other voltages (except PCI-E) in BIOS. The RAM is set at 388x2. So confused...am I stuck at "only" 3GHz?

In the bios check for the performance enhance option. For overclocking purposes it should be set to standard, not turbo which is the default. It does make difference because my e6750 will run at 3.2 ghz on stock voltage with it on standard but it will randomly crash with it on turbo. I'm not sure what exact the setting does but it messes with the chipset somehow.

i realize that a 50% overclock is still really nice, however since I know the chip has run faster in the past, why can't it now? Is it just limited by my board?

DS3L's are on the low-end in terms of being equipped out of the box to hit high FSB speeds due to the paltry passive NB and SB heatsinks.

You need something more than those meager aluminum heatsinks on the NB, plus the VRM's need something other than nothing to support the higher FSB speeds too.

My DS3L's are happy at FSB of 367MHz. They don't care much for going higher, but I don't ask any more from them so it's a mutually acceptable relationship ATM.

Entirely possible. My X3210 wouldn't go higher than 373x8 on my DS3L when I bought it. Two months later WHAMMO booted just fine at 425. Tested overnight just fine at 400, but I cranked it back down to 375. I fear it may immolate itself otherwise.

Oh, I had to bump NB and FSB voltage + .1 to hit 400 and + .2 to hit 425. Not sure if the second was needed.
