My claim to local gaming fame was 2xVoodoo2 12mb SLI w/ a SiS 6326.

I could run Quake 2 at 1024x768, the graphics were amazing.

Good old Diamond Edge 3D NV1.
Even came with sega style game paddles, and a few sega games ported to PC.

I still have buried somewhere a good story about VGA.
It was in Computer Shopper, and it said since all companies have invested heavily in EGA, VGA would be a fad that would go nowhere. Long live EGA!

Cleaning my garage a few months ago, and came across a brand new 12 meg Voodoo 2 card, still in the box. I remember buying a pair of them several years ago, when Staples made a mistake and walked out the door with the pair for $30 each. Too old to sell now...

Ahh, the good ole days.

First actual 3D card I tried out was a Rendition Verité V1000 card, it had to go in large part because it was pathetic in VESA LFB modes. I got it for GL Quake 'cos it was cheaper than Voodoo1, but it wrecked DOS games. Yeah, remember DOS games?

I coughed up the coin for the Diamond Monster 3D, and it was 100x better in GL Quake anyway :D I even stuck some heatsinks onto it and overclocked it 6 MHz. Blazin'!!

Awesome article :D

Reminds me of the days of my 2mb Matrox.. Upgradable to four!

Think I had a Voodoo 3000 at some point, too. Still got a couple of old PCI cards lying around, but can't remember what they are off the top of my head.

Rendition Ready!

I had the 3D Blaster PCI with the Rendition V1000 chip. Awesome card. You should've played vQuake and not glQuake with your V1000! vQuake was the first game I played with anti-aliasing.

Carp, now I feel old as I remember the Mach32 upgrade I made. That was pre-1995!

lol yup I had the misfortune of having one of those. the only game it played well was Decent, and that was modified for it. I did use it as a 2d card for my voodoos.

awesome! Just read the whole article, brings back memories.

Thanks!

I was a 3dfx voodoo rush user.. I was only trying to get the broadest compatibility.. at the time, it was better to get a card that can run glide, opengl,dx that runs a little slower, than to get a card that won't run glide but a little faster.

When I first looked at screenshots of Rendition Ready IndyCar Racing in the Sierra magazine it blew my mind!

The nice thing about the Rendition was the antialiasing. On my Pentium 100 I could run vQauke at 400x300 with AA on, or 512x384 with it off. Man, I was in HEAVEN!

My first video card was an ATI Rage. Smokin! I followed that up with a Riva 128 in my next system, which I replaced a few monhts later with a 16MB RivaTNT! Wow, that was hot!

Then I settled into my mid-range upgrade cycle:
GeForce2 MX
GeForce3 ti200
Radeon 9600 Pro
GeForce 6800GS

That's every card I've owned. Scary that some people here go through that many upgrades in a year.... :)
