DC turned into a drama fest while HC continues the true roll of delivering education on television.

Discuss.

They both have good shows though.. but yeah, if I really want to learn something I usually look for HS first.

History channel is the EOW channel, short for end of the world.
I stick to history international mostly now.

They're both just a joke now. Between the OMG we're gonna die shows, the monster/ghost/aliens shows, and the (IMO) crappy reality shows (Ice Road Truckers was the only one I found interesting and it could have been condensed into about 2 hours worth of TV), its just pretty blah all around.

I think the only shows that actually seem to be how they used to is Modern Marvels and How It's Made.

Granted, I didn't watch them any more before, but at least when I felt like watching those types of shows, I could flip over, but now its generally marathon rerun sessions of shows I don't want to watch or have already seen more than enough.

I think it's going to be like when MTV started MTV2 since they never played videos anymore and now look they bastardized both of them. I wonder if Discovery will follow?

How It's Made, Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs are what I watch on DC. The history channel has some shows on that always sound cool but they don't really turn out all that great. They did play Gladiator once.

The history channel still has The Universe. It was just on tonight and it is in a new season. Comes on every tuesday night for two hours 8-10pm eastern. Tonights episodes were space weapons , and science fiction: science fact.

was it "the universe"? excellent show. "how the earth was made" is good too.

i've pretty much stopped watching all of these channels, since the few non-crap shows are repeated ad nauseum. dht is my new favorite, with some great cars and motorsports programs.

for anyone watching these shows for educational purposes, they are very prone to factual errors and political spin. example: the hitler channel's (owned by newscorp) modern marvels episode "corn" was overwhelmingly positive on ethanol and gm crops, and failed to mention "starlite" whatsoever.

TLC is the worst. How can any learning be done by watching that channel? It should be called TMBBMC - The Midget, Biker, and Bitch Mom Channel

Modern Marvels is completely worthless now, though. All they talk about is "hot dog tech" or some other bullshit.

History has relegated its best programming to early morning. Fuck the marketing assholes that have taken over every facet of broadcasting.

History channel should rename itself. There is damn little history shown on it anymore. They list a lot of shows dealing with history on their website but hardly ever show most of them. However if you want reality T.V. (I use that term loosely) They will replay Ax Men, And Ice road truckers over and over agaon until you puke then to top it off bomb you with gangland.

They are both horrible. History International is okay, but even they are going the inevitable route to suckage. PBS is the only american station making good documentaries anymore. BBC does some good stuff as well if you can get it.

TLC used to be good 10-15 years ago, and then they started showing all these home makeover shows, and slowly they got into stupid ass reality shit that apparently everyone but me watches.

I have TLC blocked on my cable box, I refuse to even give that stupid ass channel a chance. The Learning Channel my ass... but I don't think they even call themselves that anymore.
