Also read Dean R. Koontz's Phantoms book. Its a good read. They made 2 crappy movies based on it.

How Hollywood has created the image of pirates always having parrots as pets, when in fact there are more documented cases of them having penguins. At least in the 17th century Atlantic region.
I'd share my old thesis with you....but it's on an old hard drive, and I'm too lazy to hook it up.
 
How about the Apollo space program? The russia/US space race? The Cold War? Espionage by both countries? Tons of stuff out there and it's pretty cool.
