hissing and crackling from speakers

i just reformatted vista on my computer, and when i downloaded the latest drivers for my sound card (X-Fi XtremeMusic) i now get random crackling and hissing noises from my speakers. they are not always random... it also happens right after a loud noise has happened, or sometimes following short after any noise has happened.

it didnt do this with the old drivers, but i cannot find the old drivers i had, only older ones than that, and even so when i try to install older drivers the install wizzard just aborts because "a newer version already exists"

any help would be great
 
idk about model number for the sound card, but like i said its an Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic and the latest vista 32 bit drivers on their website i think its 2.15.0004
