Hispanic youths

I thought I heard some Hispanic youth call each other "mi negro"? Does anybody know if that expression is common or not? It strikes me as ridiculous since I'm assuming its equivalent of "N word" that blacks use with each other.

Literally translated, "negro" is "black" (frijoles negros are black beans, for example), so literally it's "My black" but it's probably just a slang spanglish for "ma awesome dude."
I haven't heard it, but OTOH I'm not located near a large latin population here in NJ....

The term "mi negro", "mi negrito", "mi negrita" have been used for a very long time in the hispanic community. Not so much nowadays because the term can be misinterpreted as being prejudiced. But I do know that the term was used mainly to refer to people of dark skin and mainly used in South America moreso than Mexico or Central America.
