Hispanic students vanish from Alabama schools

This is what you call a problem taking care of itself. If you're here illegally you shouldn't be sucking up resources and getting a free eduction. Hopefully other states will see the effects of good legislation and how illegals will just self deport.

There are no precise statewide numbers. But several districts with large immigrant enrollments — from small towns to large urban districts — reported a sudden exodus of children from Hispanic families, some of whom told officials they would leave the state to avoid trouble with the law, which requires schools to check students' immigration status.

Just a reminder for everyone that illegals pay about $1000 in state taxes every year but it takes about $7000 to pay for one of their kids to go to schools.

This sounds like a good thing for Georgia.

It will hurt the school districts though. They receive funding based on enrollment. The type of enrollment does not matter.

It they lose 10% of students; then Federal funding could get cut by 10%. That can put teachers out on the pavement also.

Good for the taxpayers - bad for the employment numbers.

Now they just need to get those on Unemployment for many months to either go work at the jobs these illegals were doing, or, just end the unemployment and let them go get these jobs.

Does that actually mean they are leaving the state or just not attending school any more?

If its the latter given what I've read about schooling in Alabama their education might be improved by this!

Keep the good teachers get rid of the bad ones. I don't see an issue with that.

Still, the country and states will have more tax revenue per capita when these illegals leave. You could use some of the gains to help with the laid off teachers, but let's not freak out yet.

I dont see anywhere in the article that speculates the missing students are illegal. It just says "immigrants". I realize in today's day and age many people use the terms illegal immigrant and immigrant (improperly) interchangably, but if if they ARE legal immigrants, thats pretty shitty.

If they're illegal, good riddance.

pretty simple stuff..... take away the carrot and the horse stops walking! take away the insentive to be here and some might go

if they're legal then there shouldn't be a problem should it

Nope there shouldnt; however, I can tell you alot of the hispanic community here in AZ doesnt see a difference between legal and illegal. The legal ones stand up for their "brothers and sisters" and propegate the lie that if one is against illegal immigration they are racist and hate latinos.

Hey, you want to be a criminal, get treated like one. Don't be a criminal if you can't handle the consequences, potential or actual. If all these kids aren't showing up to school because they and/or their parents/guardians are here illegally, and somehow this is going to make them criminals in a few years, then I hope they get shot when they become criminals.

Good. Now if California would only do that...many of our budget problems would be fixed.
