Hi folks

I'm looking at buying a HIS Excalibur ATI Radeon X800 XL ICEQII TURBO 256MB DDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) graphics card. But am concerned that the heat sink on the back of the card may catch / foul on the leading edge of the memory stick/s on my Asus P4P800-E Deluxe Intel 865PE (Socket 478) Motherboard.

Question... is there anyone out there that either has this combination, or can tell me by how much the heat sink on the back of the card "sticks out".

Thanks...

PS. I think there is a similar heat sink on the back of the X850 cards as well.

Good point, I was wondering the same thing with an Artic Silencer - as the x800xtpe just slides under the memory at the end of the card.

Hi ronnn

are you saying that you've got an X800xtpe with a similar arrangement / problem (sorry... feature)? If so, what mothboard have you got.

Because my current card, an 9800pro, just "slides under the memory" as you say. So very little clearence between the leading edge of the memory module and the back of the graphics card (probably little more than 1 cm). Seems like a bit of a design cock up on the motherboard me thinks!

If I can't find out for definate, think I'll have to buy a card that sticks closer to the reference layout, as these appear to not use any form of heat sink on the back of the card and hence should fit my mobo. Though must admit that I rather had my heart set on this particular card. O'hum...

yes I have the x800xtpe and it is long. The back of the card just slides under the bottom of the memory. The 9700 pro left a fair bit of room there. I have an older version (well over 2 years old) of the p4p800, running a 2.4c at 3.0. Cpuz says rev 1.xx for the mainboard. I have been deciding between the zalman vf (whatever) which will fit for sure and the artic cooler, which looks awful big on the back (but will vent the hot air out of my hot case). Not sure if your mb has the same memory arrangement as mine, but I have had the same concern.
