newegg has their X1900XTX card selling for $589 after $60 rebate. I'm tempted, but never heard of HIS Hightech. Anyone have any experience with them?

his is a mainly european company i think. They usually always take a reference ati design and slap on a artic cooling silencer on the thing. nice cooling systems. They didnt do tihs for the x1900s for some odd reason.

Looks like they're HQered in HK, produce in china. Kind of weird, their mission statement is to glorify god. Unusual for a graphics card company.

They are still an excellent GPU manufacturer.
They usually do some cool custom GPU coolers but unfortunately they havent with the X1900 range.

They usually have nice cooling solutions on their cards, & tend to be priced well considering that.

The one HIS card i had was great.

HIS are well known to be manufacturers of excellent video cards- have no doubts about purchasing from them.

HIS is the acronym for "Hightech Information Systems". They are based in Taiwan, and have quite an impressive manufacturing facility from the photos I've seen of it.

Anyway, HIS doesn't manufacture i.e. build their own cards like Sapphire and Asus do. Rather, HIS buys ATI-built (BBA, aka "Built-By-ATI") reference boards and then adds a "custom" GPU cooling system, which in the past have been Arctic Cooling Silencers' with a special HIS graphic on the ducting instead of ATI's logo/graphic.

The HIS Excalibur X800 XT IceQ II PE in my signature is exactly what I just described. I bought my HIS card from SuperPCMart.com in Northern California in August of 2004 when all the Nvidia fanboys and ATI wannabes we're crying about how the X800 XT PE was vaporware. BS. Those who had the money had no trouble finding them.

Only "problem" with HIS cards' is that they only carry a 1-Year Warranty (just like ATI-brand cards). Although, in my experience (10-years plus, some of it as a PC/Mac hardware manager) cards rarely go bad from normal (non-overclocked) use. I have seen cards go bad from just sitting in a PC and not being used/PC turned-on though. Its like they die of neglect.

Anyway, here is a link to the HIS web site:

http://www.hisdigital.com/html/driver.php

If you are looking for an XTX card and a longer warranty the VisionTek X1900XTX carries a Limited Lifetime Warranty and is available right now for $629.99 including FREE Fed-Ex shipping. I ordered mine 1/28 (Saturday) and received it (Monday) 2/6. It came with a "Got Xtasy?" tee-shirt and a 128MB USB 2.0 drive. I paid $649.99 so I got screwed for $20.00. I wonder if I call VisionTek and complain about the $20.00 I can get a a credit to my card...

Heres the link to the X1900XTX Bundle at VisionTek's online store:

HIS _do_ make quite a range of their own card designs. They got a broad selection of VIVO-enabled card all the way down to the budget end (who else makes a 9550SE-VIVO?), they got cards with quiet cooling solutions, they have dual-DVI cards.

Never had a duff one from them, and the one time I needed their services (with a dying fan on an ooooold card), their German importer were being excellent about it. They're always my first stop when I look for a new ATI card.

I had 9600XT HIS , 9800XT HIS , x800XT HIS and now X1900XT HIS , never had one problem and they always seemed to score best out of all ATI vendors in stock speed.

I have an HIS 9600 with dual DVI ports. My only complaint is that it's $128, for that price you should be getting a 9600 Pro or XT. I'd like to mod it up but I don't know how, and I'm afraid I'd ruin the 2nd DVI port as I don't know other 9600s with it.

I had a HIS 9600 Pro whose fan died at some point and eventually the card died too. Other than that I haven't heard any real complaints about HIS and would buy from them again.
