13 is way low for HD.. we get 20 an hour in Houston for L1 helpdesk..
L2 is closer to 25 an hour and up from there.

and I thought that was too low for helpdesk hell I had to leave and get a real job (deskside support) just wasnt worth the pain and stress.

well i was stationed in jax for 10 years and i rented 3 br homes for under 500 a month in nice neighborhoods...
here in Houston I cant touch a 1br apartment in the ghetto for that..
my rent is currently 1045 a month for a 2 BR apartment.

Well, like I said, if you can endure 2 months (January and August) of solid helpdesk calls, and 10 months of slacking off (like having an hour or two between calls, plenty of time to play WoW and watch movies - which many of us have done both), I'd say it's pretty much worth it.

Well, like I said, if you can endure 2 months (January and August) of solid helpdesk calls, and 10 months of slacking off (like having an hour or two between calls, plenty of time to play WoW and watch movies - which many of us have done both), I'd say it's pretty much worth it.

Compared to typical call center environments, this place rocks. And I should update, it looks like $13-$15 - and again, with EXCELLENT benefits.

$13x 40= $520/ week
$520 x 4.3(weeks)= $2236/ month

Around $1500 after tax.(no state income tax)
Hell, I can easily live on that.

$400- rent(get a roommate)
$100- ultilities.
$200- food

Thats the only neccessities I see.
$800 left for car, entertainment, and whatever else.

I can live on $1000/month if I needed to.

as speaking with someone that had experience on living on $13.30 an hour i can vouch for that. there are some misc charges such as insurance and taxes but $2200 is doable with roughly 600 (a conservative estimate) straight savings per month.

Hell, I bought my house when I was making $9.xx an hour. Lots of overtime. It sucked, but I was making $11.50 for a while while I had it with no OT. It sucked, but it worked.

We are probably around that ratio, possibly more per user. We do support roughly 40 schools plus our internal corporate and we have about 36 people, so that's about one per school, and the schools generally have more than 1300 users....

I'm in almost the same boat as you. I make almost exactly the same amount, am 23, bought a house in the area for $120k around 2.5 years ago, etc etc.

Unless you have a really high APR on your mortgage, you shouldn't have problems making it with that income at all.
 
Anyone considering actually moving to Orlando (or Central Florida for that matter) let me tell you about what to expect when you move here:

I have lived in Orlando since 1966. The price of houses has TRIPLED in the last 10 years or so. I bought my house in 1987 and it has almost quadrupled in value since then. You used to be able to get a nice 1 bedroom apartment for $600 a month. If you do not mind having a roommate you get share a 2-bedroom for about $450 a month each (plus expenses). Orlando is not the great place to live that it used to be. $13 an hour will get you an apartment (not a great one) if you are prepared to share. It is HOT as HELL from May through October and pretty nice thereafter.

I am getting ready to sell and move a little north. My sons will never be able to afford a house here and I want them to live close to me.

If you are not prepared for real estate/rental sticker shock then prepare yourself!

i'm renting an apt. RIGHT across from campus at $515 a month with utilities (water/cable/elec) included and fully furnished (priv room/priv bath/wash/dryer/fully loaded kitchen/beds,desks,couches,dishwasher...the works). it is doable.

The problem is that you people that say this have no money management skills whatsoever. On less than $13 I was able to make it in my house. My mortgage now is about the same as what an apartment would be, singly.

If you don't have any experience and you aren't looking to work in NYC, $55K is not that easy to come by if you didn't graduate from a very very good college.
