So we are looking for new employees for the Christmas season. I put up a help wanted ad on an internet forum that I frequent. I got a resume sent to me, forwarded it to the HR guy. He liked what he saw, called the guy in for an interview. Interview went good, got hired. Now to the stupid part and to a part that I don?t understand. He was told to come in for training on Wednesday. He did not show up for training Wednesday. I got an e-mail saying that he was sick, needed some time to recoup and that he would be going to the doctor and getting a note. He also mentioned that he still very badly wanted the position. When I first started here at this company, my very first day, I got sick. I called in sick and was given a second chance to come to work. I told the HR guy my story and he recommended that we do the same, give this guy a second chance. So I e-mailed him. I told him to come in on Friday at 11 am to train. I did not get a reply back from him. I figured all was well and he was going to show up. Come 11 am Friday, no one there. So, I waited for about an hour and realized the guy was not coming in. I e-mailed him and told him that he was terminated.

All the while that he did not show up he was posting on the forum that I posted the help wanted ad at. Whoring up like hell.

I truly do not understand why someone would give up a job opportunity.

Duuuuuuuuuuh! Don't hire someone from an internet forum with "off topic" room if you really are serious about getting qualified candidates and well exemplified citizens. I'm not saying it's impossible to ever do it and get someone good. What I am saying is, if you want to eliminate or minimise chances of getting someone of such character, or lack thereof, then stick to the conventional way of hiring or post your ad in a more serious site geared for that purpose. You know, it isn't just the potential employee that should be wary, so should the employer.

Well, maybe he realized that it wasn't what he wanted to do? But the way he handled it was not professional

Wierd indeed! Didn't see an answer to what kind of job. If it's an IT job you can rest assured that he's addicted to posting. PRolly not a good find.

youre better off without him. ive fired every person who couldnt show up on the first day. if you cant make it the first day, i dont want you. i dont care what excuse, ive heard them all. im sure ive lost a few good employees, but ill take that chance just to weed out all the irresponsible people who would just end up wasting more time and money in the long run.

Very much so.

I hired 2 people 2 weeks ago.
One girl worked for a week and found a better job. I can understand that.
The other guy worked for 3 days....things are going well as I can tell....then doesn't show up for work.

Another guy came back begging for his job back....I gave it to him.
Then he didn't showed up tonight.

Let me repeat that thought....People are lazy and stupid
