Here come all the haters. When Hines played under Bill Cowher Pittsburgh was a dominate run team. What if Hines would of play his whole career in New England he would have better stats. Most receivers are pussies and don't block Hines was the best all round receiver.

Ya Chris Carter have better stats but he was a fucking dope head and even admits he was cut from the Eagles because of it.

So you're playing the what if game with Hines if he had played on a passing team? You can do that with every player in sports history. That's a useless argument.

If Tm Brown, Chris Carter, and Andre Rison can't get in then no way Ward should get in.

He has something they don't have (a super bowl ring & super bowl mvp). If Art Monk can get in then Ward should get in.

Today Ward announced his retirement. Sucks to see him go and I wish the Steelers had kept him around for a couple more years but I do like how he decided to bow out gracefully.

There's a good chance he makes it to the Hall of Fame, but I wouldn't say he's a lock by any stretch. He's one of those "yeah, he's pretty good I guess" sort of players that doesn't really ever do anything truly miraculous but quietly gets his stats.

No. He was not a Randy Moss/Jerry Rice type nor was that the role he was in. He was a terrific "possession" receiver that you knew would make the play on a 3rd down pass. That was the down everyone knew it was going to Ward and he still made the play.

Now, whether a guy who piled up 1,000 career receptions SHOULD have been double-covered is another story. 🙂

People say his stats aren't good enough for the HOF. You can't discount his dominating blocking ability, the best of any WR in his era. He was out there banging people on every play. There were whole seasons I did not see him drop a single catchable pass even after getting leveled going over the middle. I still maintain he's a lock for the HOF. He's got the stats, he's got the tough-guy rep in the league, he's got 2 SB rings and a SB MVP.

This is what I was thinking, his blocking ability. Whether that will translate to the HOF, I don't know. But I'd definitely take him over Chris Carter, Andre Reed, Tim Brown, and Harrison as a result.
