Something along the lines of:

"But sir, surely you cannot have lost my reservations, I have the confirmation in front of me that I will gladly fax to you immediately. Surely there is no way you lost my reservations at such a grand place as this. My confirmation is on front of me, I have the reservations. There is no way such a hotel as the Hilton lost my reservations. When I have booked my company here for conferences at other Hiltons they have never lost my reservations, so I cannot understand why it would happen now. I will be happy to wait and will be very patiant for you to clear this simple mistake up as I am sure that someone as important as you to this big hotel can get this done for me."

Good Luck. :)

EDIT: Repeat over and over, even if you sound like a confused old lady they will fix it. Ask them to get someone that does has authority and if they cannot offer that, then keep repeating yourself with kindness.

I've been trying, but as much as i repeat it, they just say 'Sorry, thats all we can offer' :(

I don't recall ever having a bad experience like that. Hilton Garden Inn and Embassy Suites are among my favorite chain hotels.

I hope you find alternate lodging, and do send a written complaint with a copy of your confirmation.

1. I HAVE the printed out confirmation e-mail in front of me. They are refusing to even let me fax it to them because they say if its not in their system, there is nothing they can do.
How can they refuse? Just look up their fax number on the Hilton website and fire away! Which hotel is this, by the way?

Come on man, sometimes things like this happen. I guarantee you if I were in that situation I would have had a hotel room. I don't think you exercised enough damage control.

I spend a hundred or so days in a hotel a year, and problems like this happen all the time. I've never been in a situation where it wasn't quickly remedied simply because I kept my cool. If you're a good customer they'll bend over backwards to make you happy.

OP, I just wanted to say I understand your problem and feel bad for you. They are hosing you dude. You did what you were supposed to do and Hilton is screwing you.

(I thought you needed a little sympathy. Not many people are supporting you on this even though I think you are clearly in the right)

You're building it? ;)

I stayed at Hilton Hotels over 20 nights last year and didn't have a problem. I'm sorry you did, but it isn't reason enough to make me stay away.

Please, easily avoided? Explain to me exactly what i did wrong here. I am curious.

You booked a reservation in September and checked it for the first time today? Calling two months ago could have easily solved this problem. I'm not saying that their actions are justified, as you received pretty crappy service. However, I wouldn't turn people away from Hilton hotels simply because you had one bad experience at one of their smaller chains. It would help to know which chain this was at, btw.

OH MY LORD MAN, READ MY OP AGAIN!

Tonight we call the hilton to find out about possibly arriving a day later than our original reservation was for. Much to our surprize, our reservation is nowhere to be found. They said not only had it NOT been cancelled, but it NEVER existed. Strange, we called back in April just to confirm and they repeated it back to us over the phone exactly as it said in the e-mail, even the price.

you have been on this board for 5 years and you expect people to read your OP before replying

I wonder what they would do if you showed up with the printed copy on that day and just acted completely clueless when they say it doesn't exist and you flip out about it. I'd bet good money that they would give you your room. :p

Yeah, that wouldn't surprise me either. :) If it wasn't a 3,000 mile flight, I'd say go for it.

And what idiot here actually suggested he accidently made a reservation at a Holiday Inn thinking it was the Hilton? I mean, really, wtf?
