VIRTUAL TIE: 49.9-49.6% with 99.5% reporting. Wow. This is going to come down to a photo finish.

On the other side, Cruz handily beating Trump 28-24 which is slightly surprising but not really if you followed the margin of polling error. I'm betting a lot of Trump's supporters stayed home due to the weather and/or Trump's non-attendance at the debate may have backfired. Rubio also now taking a big chunk of Trump's voters as well.

I'm no political scientist but it's gotta be hard when you campaign as the "inevitable candidate" and can't even beat this guy. That doesn't augur for a base voter that seems excited to have her as POTUS.

Agreed, I thought she'd do better but they did say a large turnout would favor Sanders and that's exactly what's happening.

Sanders is now within less than a percent.

Kinda surprised by Cruz, if he wins the nomination Hillary will crush him.

Haha excuses, excuses.

You forget Trump appeals to the xenophobic and racist part of the republican base. A lot of Republicans are not racists and xenophobes.

Some are showing 53-47 for clinton, some are showing near 50-50. We'll see very very soon though.

For the record I think this is indicative of nothing for the future though.

Well it was pretty certain Bernie was going to curb stomp her in NH, this pretty much seals that deal methinks even if she technically "wins" in Iowa.

However, there is a large push in the Bernie camp to go and be active, not so much with Clinton. This 50/50 result may be with 60% of her supporters and 95% of Bernie's.

I'd still actually consider Bernie.

Have just never said so out loud here.

Not sure he could pull it off long term, I do like what he is pushing for, but even if he got elected he wouldn't have a magic wand like many people seem to think on passing legislation.

Considering Iowa's recent history with Huckabee and Santorum it seems a win for Cruz is a perfect fit with whatever it is that people in Iowa find attractive.

Trump excuses for losing:

- Iowans, they're all losers
- Iowans, they only pick losers so i actually won
- Cruz lies to Iowans and they're stupid for believing him so I won the non-stupid vote
- Iowans have too many illegals voting

Its the Conservative evangelicals and there are a lot of them in Iowa. That's the crowd Cruz has been stroking during his entire campaign.

The local political analysts all said that Cruz had a superior ground organization in Iowa. He's been building it for years. Trump's wasn't as strong, which likely hurt his turnout.

Just got a message from Rueters that Cruz has won, got me.

But I guess that was looking a done deal anyway.

Not surprised, rural conservatives aren't a fan of 'new york values'.

This is still a big loss for Trump. Yea, I know it doesn't mean much but this loss will deflate a bit of his confidence.

My biggest takeaway from Iowa, is that it's completely screwball Iowa has the place in elections it does.

That, and lol ¡Jerb! Way to blow $50 million. You ARE a Bush.

Considering they picked Huckabee and Santorum to win in the past, I wouldn't look too far into this.

Back up to 50-49.3%. 85% reported

49.44% vs 49.92% with 88.6% reporting.

I think Bernie has a good chance to get the 0.48%, mostly because the younger people voting for him were late / last in line to get registration forms (and reportedly they ran out of forms) - so I'm betting the late votes will slant his way.

Anyway, much much closer than I thought.

Legendkiller must be flipping his shit right now.

For the guy who's best at everything, it's guy to be hard to lose to a douche like Cruz
