BLUE BELL, Pa. - Hillary Rodham Clinton invoked Pearl Harbor, the Berlin Wall and Osama bin Laden as she reached for a victory in Pennsylvania's Democratic presidential primary to recharge her comeback effort

It was the first time a Democratic candidate has used bin Laden in a campaign commercial in the 2008 race for the White House. The terrorist appears along with images from the stock market crash, the bombing at Pearl Harbor, the Soviet threat, the collapse of the Berlin Wall and Hurricane Katrina as an announcer tells voters the political contest is for "the most important job in the world."

'The politics of fear'
"You need to be ready for anything, especially now, with two wars, oil prices skyrocketing and an economy in crisis. Harry Truman said it best, `If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.' Who do you think has what it takes?" the announcer says at the end, as Clinton appears on screen.

Obama spokesman Bill Burton said the ad "plays the politics of fear." And he said Clinton is to blame for allowing bin Laden to escape by supporting war in Iraq and diverting the U.S. military.

"It's ironic that she would borrow the president's tactics in her own campaign and invoke bin Laden to score political points," Burton said.

When some people are backed against the wall their true nature is revealed, but what can one expect from those that believe it is not enough to win but everyone else must lose, because for some winning is everything and the ends justify the means.

"... for some winning is everything and the ends justify the means. "

That's what she's been all about from day one.

After all, it is her turn.

so, what's the list of things Obama doesn't want us to talk about up to now?

but saying "Clinton is to blame for allowing bin Laden to escape" is just fine, I guess.

"Hi, my name is Hillary Clinton. My campaign is $10 million in the red, my opponent is out-fundraising me 4-to-1, so please vote me tomorrow in Pennsylvania, so that in November I can hand over a broke and dispirited Democratic Presidential campaign to McDoofus and the red-state thieves."

In elections past, when people are scared, they're more likely to vote for the incumbent. This is very smart of her campaign.

Great summary :)

She's trying another 3 AM ad. I wonder how many Republicans are voting for her in the primaries to keep this going.

Obama is the only candidate remaining who has said anything about actually going after bin Laden and those responsible for the 9-11 attack. Also Hillary now says we have to win the war in Iraq after previously outlining her timetable for withdrawal. She's so desperate to get votes she'll say anything. I really wish the voters of PA would turn out in force and support Obama so Hillary can pack up and go home.

That's about the size of it.

The Max Cleland ad likened his anti-war stance to being a terrorist sympathizer. Which was beyond insulting and disgusting to do to a war vet.

Clinton merely used the OBL image as a symbol of one of the things the next president will face. I don't see how showing people a picture of bin laden is playing the politics of fear anymore than Obama talking in a stump speech about how Iran or al Qaeda is very dangerous and must be dealt with. Is he playing on fear or recognizing a troublesome hotspot his presidency will have to deal with?

by "go after Osama," didn't Obama essentially say that we should invade Pakistan?

PA is not an open primary state. You only get to vote for the candidates in your registered party affiliation. It used to piss me off all of the time when I lived there b/c I was a registered independent and never got to vote in primary elections.

Wow. That's a few logical jumps...

I'm always the first to admit when I'm wrong, and I could just be totally pulling this out of my ass, but I thought what Obama said was that he'd be willing to go into Pakistani territory to go after Obama, regardless of whether Pakistan approved the "invasion" or not.
