Hillary Clinton tells friends she's leaving 2020 door open

https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/27/politics/inside-politics-forecast-cnntv/index.html

Hillary Clinton may not be ready to give up on her Oval Office dreams, CNN's Jeff Zelenyreports.
"Clinton is telling people that she's not closing the doors to the idea of running in 2020," Zeleny said. "I'm told by three people that as recently as this week, she was telling people that look, given all this news from the indictments, particularly the Roger Stone indictment, she talked to several people, saying 'look, I'm not closing the doors to this.'"
Still, Zeleny said, "it does not mean that there's a campaign-in-waiting, or a plan in the works." And one close Clinton friend told Zeleny "it would surprise me greatly if she actually did it."
"Most losing presidential candidates never totally close the doors to running for president" again, Zeleny said. "But I think we have to at least leave our mind open to the possibility that she is still talking about it. She wants to take on Trump. Could she win a Democratic primary to do it? I don't know the answer to that."

Lol. Do it. Next two years are going to be really interesting. Maybe not quite as fun as the runup to 2016 but who knows. Clinton. Biden. Warren. Harris. Gonna be great. Beto needs to run, Ive got a feeling that he’s going to be like Rand was. The candidate that needs to win but didn’t. He’d have my vote.

Whoever runs Trump will lose. I don’t doubt he’s going to be a one term president, but he’ll absolutely go down fighting. I think the Dems (hopefully) have learned a lesson and they can’t ignore the middle of the country. Going to be interesting no matter what, I’ve got my popcorn ready.

And Bernie is going to run again, will he run D or as an independent. If independent that creates a scenario where Trump might actually win a second term.

Hillary didn't make any friends in the Bernie bros camp. She didn't didn't do all that well with the deplorable's either. Be interesting to see how her message changes. Will she swing further left or right?

I thought there was no way we could ever get a worse general campaign choice than 2016. Having Trump vs Clinton Part 2 would be worse. It would be like having a sequel to John Travolta's "Battlefield Earth".

With Bernie running as an independent. Would be epic, I hope this comes to pass.

Ugh, excuse me while I go gargle some bleach at the thought. Are you a masocist, part of a doomsday cult hoping such an election would bring about the end of the world, or simply belong to this sect?

The only thing that scares me more than Trump and Trumpers is Hillary running again in 2020 as the nominee..

Somehow I don't think people are gonna be that stupid again.. in 2016 we didn't have much choices besides Bernie who was legitimately a good candidate. This time we have really good candidates and we know electability doesn't matter after what happened with Trump. We'll hopefully make a smarter choice this time around.

Hush, this is a rightwing fantasy thread. Don't disturb them in their moment of pleasure.

Yeah...no thanks. When will she accept that Americans, even long time Democrats such as myself find her unacceptable. Bernie is even worse for me with all his "free everything for everyone" ideas.
So far, I haven't seen anyone step forward to be the Dem candidate who has a chance of beating Trump...and that's scary as hell to me.

He just wants to watch the world burn.

Beto. Run him. Warren is second. I agree with your opinion about Bernie. Clinton was actually very competent and understood economics, she’s just a very tarnished individual. The departing CEO echoed the same sentiments, that the national debt is the number one issue facing us and he was scared of the rise of "free everything" among progressives.

Yeah, Hillary was possibly the most qualified candidate, but brought too much...baggage for most people. Between the email scandal and the foundation money issues, she left people with an uneasy feel...(IMO, not 1%as bad as Trump, but, he said the right things to the right groups of people...even if he (and they) knew he was lying to them.
Part of me would like to see Biden run...I believe he had a chance of beating Trump last time...I’m not so sure now.

Hillary had a huge uphill battle with 20+ years of fulltime smear campaign run by Faux News and other professional GOP trolls-some of whom have actually made a fulltime well-paying career out of creating dirt on Hillary.

She had her chances in 2008 and 2016. I supported her initially in 2008 and strongly in 2016, but her time has come and gone. Obviously it would be OP's ultimate wet dream for her to run (thus nearly insuring His Donaldship's hold on his throne) but it would be stupid for Hillary, the Democratic Party and most importantly, the country.

Bernie probably will run again. He is the Ralph Nader of the current times-speaks a good game, has little chance of winning and ZERO chance of implementing his agenda as President with a GOP Senate and near balance in the House (Democrats are like the GOP and don't religiously vote the party line). But, unlike Nader, he is smart enough not to be a spoiler in the actual election. The best legacy Bernie can have is to inspire new, good followers to jump in on lower races.

The Democratic Party needs a strong, practical leader to repair the damage done to this country-much like the role Obama was stuck with for most of his presidency. Let's see what new faces rise from the field-there is plenty of time to go.

Please gawd, no. The last thing we need to hear is crooked Hilary all over the place. I thought we had finally put all that behind us. I voted for her, but it was only because shse was the lesser of two evils, which made me sick to my stomach. It was the first time I have ever voted for someone that I didn't want, because the alternative was just hot garbage.

So it seems the general consensus in the thread is that while Clinton is a terrible candidate that she is a competent technocrat (albeit with sometimes puzzling lapses in judgement). Seems like a potential avenue for her might be as the VP on another person's ticket rather than at the top. I think most could probably accept her as POTUS as a fall-back/placeholder option should another Dem get elected and dies/resigns but there's little appetite to actually VOTE for her as President again. Basically reprising the VP Biden role when there proved to be little voter appetite for Biden as the top of the ticket in 2018.

If Schultz and Bernie both run, Trump wins. Stay away Hillary, you're Dukakis to me now.

Hillary isn't going to run, Bernie isn't going to win, and Schultz can absolutely eat the darkest corner of my ass.

It's way too early to really get a good sense of the D field yet but those three, while Bernie will likely get farthest, aren't really it IMO.

I think that’s a good summary. I don’t see her being a VP pick though. I don’t think she’ll be ok with it and whomever is the presidential candidate will see her too much of a liability. I do think she’s a competent technocrat as you said though with much more realistic policies than Bernie. You can tell she cringed at his everything for free polices in 2016 too. His promises were just as empty as Trumps Mexico will pay for it lie. Sounds great to voters even though it’s an impossibility.

Hillary doesn't seem to realize yet that most of the country, including large parts of the democratic base, do not like her at all, and that is putting it mildly. I guess she is still popular in the insider/fundraising circles she frequents, but the same is not true outside that bubble.

I hope she does us all a favor, and retires somewhere far away from public policy.
