Hillary challenges Obama to unmoderated debate

This would be interesting.

?Senator Clinton and Senator Obama will participate in a 90-minute debate in an open public forum,? Mrs. Williams wrote. ?Just the two of them ? no questioners, no panelists, no video clips. One candidate would speak for two minutes, then the other, alternating back and forth all the way through the debate. Their discussion ? not any pre-set rules ? would determine how long they spend on one subject before moving on to another.?

Obama will in all likelihood decline...

He doesn't seem to be a very good debater mainly because of his lack of ideas. Hes a better orator and preacher.

I don't know if he'll do well. He tends to need to get things in order and think about the right answer...

Which kinda makes sence considering: Hillary jumps up and does something even if its wrong. Her emotions carry her every move. Obama, while not being able to jump to his feet right away in a debate, needs to think about his decisions to make sure they are the right one. She's quick, he's smart.

Unmoderated debates are just screaming matches. It would be stupid. She is a dumb dumb. Maybe link has more than that, but it won't come up...

She knows that Obama can't think quick enough, so even if she does poorly, Obama will be worse off. 1-2 points for her!

Sorry hes not as smart as you think he is. If you watch every previous debate, Hillary gave very intelligent answers and she gave them first.

Then Obama parroted most of it. He will lose this debate thats why he won't do it, thats why he doesn't want to count Michigan or Florida to be counted as well. I don't blame him, its politics, Hillary has played her fair share of politics as well, screaming about Iran before the primary.

The devil would be in the details. But in all seriousness, Obama does need to get completive will Hillary on the jobs issue, and this might be an opportunity. And some compromise
might be worked out in regard to some semistructured debate.

Heh.... Rules are rules. Michigan and Florida broke them knowing full well the consequences. They knew the votes wouldn't count before they took the action to move their primaries up. If they wanted their votes to count, they should have played by the rules. Now that Hillarys behinds, she feels that she can break the rules. Sorry, this political game doesn't work like that.

Obama has been asked just as many questions in which he gave the first responce, even if you watch him speak, he pauses on numerous occasions to think his thoughts through. Hillary's been in the game long enough to say just about anything.

It's like playing Monopoly with a bunch of friends and saying "Oh hell no, I'm not going to jail and paying 200 dollars, just because I landed on that square and/or got that card, I'm changing the rules, I'm not going". Too bad....

My thoughts...

Get a few Hillary and Obama people in a room the day of the debate with no outside contact. Have them write up 20-30 questions generic questions that both sides agree on and write them on 5x7 cards.

Then hand the cards to a moderator who would randomly pick a card and read the question to the candidates. Each candidate would get a minute to answer the question and then they move to next question. They would each take turns answering a question first.

Since both sides agree to the questions there would be no 'gotcha' type stuff and no personal question about Wright or snipers etc.

They would all be policy questions or stuff like "What about your up bringing equips you to be President." etc.

Would be interesting to see the results.

It's just a trap.

Her whole thing now is how Obama is NOT tough enough. If he doesn't get tough with her in this debate she claims a win, he'll look weak. If he plays tough with her, he'll look bad for being tough with an old white woman and his likabiliy factor is damaged. It's a no-win situation for him, and a no-lose for her. Nobody "likes" her anyway.

He needs to play his game, not hers.

There's an old saying that goes something like this- "never wrestle with a pig, you'll just end up muddy, and the pig will enjoy it". In this case, she'll muddy him up and look all the better for it.

If I were Howard Dean, I'd tell her to stfu. I just see something like this damaging the ultimate Dem nominee (Obama) and further alienating the 2 sides (Obama & Hillary supporters).

Obama has everything to lose at this point
Fern is 100% right. HRC really shows her party loyalty with this one... NOT.

party loyalty? what is this, soviet russia? 😛

Obama is handcuffed in any debate at this point.

Hillary is portraying herself as a "fighter", and can and does make any accusation that has the least chance of sticking.

Obama is being criticized from both angles - when he takes the attacks without responding, he's weak and vulnerable to the Republicans. When he fires back, he's a hypocrite, because he claims to be different and a "uniter".

When you're in a corner like that, you have nothing to gain and everything to lose by debating. He's not scared, he's just not stupid.

He'll decline. No need to debate when you've got N. Carolina locked up and Indiana in a dead heat.

If people want to see the two debate, there are a couple dozen prior debates that have covered every topic already.

Hilldog is getting D-E-S-P-E-R-A-T-E.

What in the HELL does each of those decisions, or issues, have to do with the other?! 😕

Obama will do what he does, Hillary tossed the ball to his side of the net and now he has to do SOMETHING. Lets not rule out the possibility that Obama will not figure out a way to outsmart her. Maybe jpeyton is right, Hillary is getting desperate, but there are always many ways to skin a cat.

If Obama wins without showing he can debate toe to toe, he is going to have to face McCain in the end.

all three choices are the politically safe moves?

I agree though that it's probably a political move aimed to have Obama say, "21+ debates is honestly enough, we've already talked about every issue and our stance on it, what would 1 more debate honestly do but waste eachothers time"... which is political ammo for Hillary.... That *%&#

I agree. America said Bush won the debates therefore Obama has won the debates.

Obama is walking on eggshells. As Fern said, it's lose-lose any way you look at it. America likes its blacks as either entertainers or defendents. Him going on the attack against her will be wrong in so many ways in the eyes of many.

That's crazy talk. There's no precedence to show that voters anywhere would react like that.

I haven't listened to a debate in quite a while. 21 debates is just plain stupid. Having a 22nd would he idiotic.

Can you just imagine how poorly Bush would have performed in an unmoderated debate?
