but it just proves politics as normal. no matter who is in charge NOTHING is going to change.

people like to scream and yell about one person but when its there person getting nailed they need to make excuses instead of saying yeah he/she/it fucked up.

both have lied.

No kidding, Einstein. She did exaggerate, but that is long way away from deliberate lying as the bashers want us to believe.
I'll still take Hillary over Barack any day on real policy experience, not what the media thinks policy experience is, which is all about style and no substance. Barack has no policy experience, foreign or domestic. He wasn't even a very active Senator. I don't see any landmark policy legislations coming from his office. In state legislature, he was "present," aka lights on but noone at home 😛
I really don't want to vote for McCain this November, but it looks like the Democrats will make me by nominating that demagogue Obama.

heh keep your head in the sand. face it facts it was a lie. just as Obama lied about not hearing the damn sermons.

neither have any experiaence to speak of so that really shouldnt be an issue.

but yes i am tired of the dirty politics. bad part is hilary had done it far more then any and finally got it back at her.

Now I'm confused...did Bush lie about WMD or did he just exaggerate a little?

Lie. Because it was not a personal recollection of events long time ago.

Just out of curiosity, how long ago does an event have to be in the past before you can call false claims regarding the details thereof 'lies'? 🙂

Hillary has done far more than any? Ever hear of Karl Rove?
Obama is not above it either, no matter what above the fray facade he puts on.
I am also fairly certain Obama will be nominated and I will have to hold my nose and vote for McCain, despite waiting for 8 years to elect a Democrat. 🙁

see?

how boring is this election going to be when it's just Obama v McCain? 🙁

A personal recollection is different from a concentrated effort by an entire administration to promote a lie to sell a war.

It's not a matter of time, it's a matter of intent.

I love how people who supported the Iraq war and still stand by that lie think that pointing finger and Hillary and saying, "she lied about Bosnia," is going to absolve them of their responsibility for the unnecessary death of 4000 American soldiers.

Last year, I had sex with Jenna Jameson and Jessica Alba... at the same time!!!

What? a lie?

Noooo, it's not a lie!! seriously, that's just how I remember it...

WTF does this story have to do with Bush or Iraq?! Answer: nothing.

DEFLECT!! DEFLECT!! DEFLECT!!

Yeah, I don't support the Iraq war, and have always been vocally and steadfastly against it, even during the buildup in '02. I was a firm supporter of the Afghan mission (which has unfortunately suffered due to the diluted resources of managing two war efforts) though.

And I don't see how this isn't a lie. Sure she might have lied because she didn't remember things correctly, but that doesn't turn a falsehood into a truth.

Intentions? We'll never know.

Hillary voted for the war and continues to vote for the war.

I'm really amazed how rational people can watch that video and still defend her. She clearly lied. The main question I have is this: Why is she still in the race?

she was clearly wrong.

I think to damn her and call her a liar means that it was her intent from the beginning to deliberately misrepresent her trip or if her memory was simply wrong... I think it's the second one; clearly the first is the option of HDS'ers around the country, though.

She was trying to buff up her resume and it backfired. You don't think that's what happened?

Only partisan hacks accuse her of not being very intelligent, so why would she keep pushing this when she knew a CBS news crew accompanied her on the trip?

what do you think was going through her mind? "let me lie about this incident despite the fact that I had a CBS news crew and numerous other people with me at the time."

I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt... memory gets distorted over time. for years, I was 100% convinced that my parents took me to see Born on the Fourth of July when I was a toddler. I would have sworn on a stack of bibles that it happened, and honestly, I still kinda remember it happening, but it's impossible based on the date. somewhere over the course of the past 15-20 years, my memory of it just got fucked up.

I pretty much agreed with SJ.

She appears to have relayed a clearly innacurate version of her trip to Bosnia, given the news footage. This isn't necessarily a lie. Last week I posted in OT about an episode of a tv show I saw only a few years ago and somehow got the details really wrong, even though I had a very clear memory in my head of how it had happened. I would have said I was 95-100% sure of what I remembered. Then I watched the episode and it was way different from what I had posted.

Memories are malleable. I can see Hillary and Chelsea talking about their trip to Bosnia maybe after they got home, and joking about how there were snipers or about how they survived, etc. Then the joking memories supplant the real ones. I'd be a lot more critical if I didn't just do the same thing. Memory is a funny thing.

Course, I'm a Hillary supporter so she gets my benefit of the doubt, just as Obama supporters give him the benefit of the doubt.

"In interviews Monday, aides to Mrs. Clinton at the time of the trip, as well as an Associated Press photographer who was on the trip, said that she and others were briefed before landing about the possibility of sniper fire around the airport in Tuzla, Bosnia. None of the aides remembered actual sniper fire. Nor did the photographer, Doug Mills, who now works for The New York Times."

Imagine being told that there even was a possibility of snipers when you are about to get off a plane. Imagine walking outside feeling there might be a crosshair on you. I think that would stick in your imagination/memory and you would probably remember the feeling of fear when you recall the situation.

She is an intelligent woman, but that doesn't mean she's honest. In fact intelligent people can be very deceiving as we see in this case. The fact is this has nothing to do with memory but buffing her resume and it backfired.

My point is an intelligent person doesn't LIE when they KNOW a network news crew has the event on VIDEO. Since she, as you admit, is an intelligent person, one can give some credit to her possibly relaying an innacurate recollection of an event 12 years in the past as opposed to a calculated effort to propose a historical retelling of a situation she knows good and well is on video tape in the cbs archive.
