The thing is this sets a precident. Cops can now tag along with private business. So can they tag along with Pizza delivery drivers and go up to the door of someones house to try and catch someone that was smoking pot and got the munchies and order a dozen large pizzas? Or attemp to sneak a look in on a frat party to try and catch an under age drinker?
This is opening a flood gate to what they will be allowed to do, and all you Nancy's saying that if you don't do anything wrong you don't have to worry. That's not what it's about, it's about civil liberties and freedom from an oppressive government. Remember what you do today may be legal and fine, but tomorrow it could be against the law and you would never know.

Washington State used to have all kinds of off-beat undercover radar cars at their disposal...old pick-ups, cars of all makes, models, and years, even an old (58?) panel truck...Personally, I prefer Kahleeforneeya's tactics, where they (CHP) only used marked patrol cars (although they may NOT be the usual B&W units you're used to) and have set ground rules they have to abide by. Kind of makes participation in "the game" a bit more fair...BUT, they still are active in the "autograph exchange program", and do their share of fund raising...
how can people be this stupid? It isn't a game and it isn't meant to be fair. Speed? Get a ticket. They are just improving their chance of catching you. It isn't right to speed just because you aren't caught while you are doing it. This is no different than employing smarter ways of catching shoplifters. Accept the responsibility of the crime if you choose to commit it. I'm glad the state will make money off of people speeding because a) you deserve a ticket if you speed and b) it will make the road safer even if it is only a very small amount. I very rarely speed, and sometimes it is by accident (didn't know the speed limit). I'm not holier-than-thou, but it really annoys me when people think they are somehow above the law simply because they feel like they should be.
Actually d*ckweed, I have logged about 500,000 accident free, almost ticket free (got one non-moving violation) commercial miles in my 35 years of driving. I recognize that it is a game of sorts, just like it is to the cops...YES, if you speed and get caught, you deserve a ticket...No argument about that. Driving 10-15 MPH over the posted limit may be just as safe as driving UNDER the limit, BUT, you have to pay attention to conditions...driving fast in traffic is dangerous and stupid, and deserves a ticket.
You're probably one of the people who support ANYTHING the cops do, even entrapment, as long as they "get their man"...
I agree with many of the posters here that speeding tickets are more of a revenue source than they are a safety enhancement device.
lol.. speeding isn't the only traffic violation you can be pulled over for and get cited forOriginally posted by: MrDudeMan

I pay a lot in property taxes. So what if this is about making more revenue for the state. Great. It takes money to run a state. And, if they don't get that money from buffoons who think they're above the law, then they'll end up raising my taxes. I have a perfect idea... drop the whole point system on licenses (so they can keep nabbing the same idiots over and over again without taking away their licenses) and raise the amount of the tickets significantly. Then, they could even lower my property taxes! Being blessed with the common sense gene, I'd quickly realize that if I maintain the speed limit (or rather, stay below the speed limit that's enforced), then I'm not going to have to pay.
 No way! That would really work? Who'da thunk it?

around here twice in the past 2 months the county has staked out a section of a major east-west road and have randomly selected vehicles for a "lookyloo" ..safety violations, paperwork, equipment, etc. ..
speeding is usually not involved in a 45 mph zone when you're doing 10-15 due to numerous officers pointing and waving individual vehicles to the side ...
