I was just curious what FSB speeds people are able to run on their "Classic" Athlons. I am running 118mhz stable now, but I have heard this is unusual. Please post what speeds you were able to reach stable...Thanks in advance...

Hey Insane...
Think I did 112...took 750 to 800 with GF...then put 112 on the bus.
I can try this weekend to see what I can do with what I got...I'll post if I do. Regardless of how I do it though, around 950 is my stability limit, even going down to 1/3 cache.

This wasn't a stable speed, but I upped my fsb to 127 long enough to run a few benchmarks: SiSoft Sandra 2000 and Final Reality. Right after, I toned things down a bit because my NIC doesn't work at speeds about 110mhz. But, my gfd is in the mail...

Oh yeah...by the way...I had problems ocing my geforce, resulting in crashes in UT, and other games. I went deep to look at my core, and upon reassembling I put thermal compound between the cache and heatsink, and cpu, and wammo...I can run just about anything I got with the Annihilator oced generously. What a difference!
Later!

Cabojoe, Can you elaborate on the Geforce problems. I have mine overclocked to 145/341 and I am having some difficulty with Vampire only. What did you run your I/O voltage at? What drivers? Thanks...

Spoooon, That's pretty high...good job. I can get into Window at 120 and 1.9v, but I think my Generic PC-100 is holding me back. I am picking up some Mosel or Infineon and try for more. I haven't tried a GFD yet though...

115 w/o gfd and using 128 megs of pc100 generic ram using an Athlon 650 on an Aopen ak72 kx133 motherboard. Still runs at 748MHz(115fsb)rock solid at 1.65volts. Could get higher but my next fsb setting is 125 I think.

OK guys, I am running a 119 now (1014) at 1.85v. It seems pretty stable so far, but I have not done any real heavy testing. I just played a couple of hours of UT, and so far so good... If it is stable, I will go for 120... Anyone else out there successfully bumped the FSB past 110?

I have a 700 with 800 core on a KA7 with generic pc100, and ran at 120 fsb 1/2cache - 1.65V - 3.4 stable for a couple of weeks, then I got the smart@friendly 12x SCSI burner and after installing the advansys card it will only go to 112fsb. So I ordered a GFD and have it running at 8.5x112 2/5 cache - 1.80v - 3.4 stable. It will also run at 10x102 2/5 cache - 1.95v - 3.4 but the cpu temp was 49c idle, a little high for me. And my memory scores are higher at 112 so for now that is where I am going to run it.

119 here, 1.80V. My memory tops out here at around 155MHz, medium, to give a Sandra benchmark of 467/536.

Thanks...115-120 seems to be the plateau on these even with the better cache chips. I could reach 122 and get into Windows, but any games or Prime95 would crash. I think 118 is my sweet spot...

BTW- What I/O voltages are you running at those speeds? I am at 3.5, but I am not sure how high is too high.

just got to 855 today
114x7.5x175v
runs excellent too,
good temps, not hot by any means:)
and aswell i am running at 3.5v i/o too,
without it,
when i put it to sleep(stanby)
it would shut down,
set it at 3.5 and no problem anymore.
and now that ya mention it,i wonder if it will hurt anything in a longer stretch of time, well duh,i guess it will lol
but like you said, what is too high a voltage?

Hey Insane, what speed is your memory running at? When I set the fsb to 127, I switched the mem to fsb-pci(I think that's the speed), so my memory was only running at 127. The highest I was able to get my memory to run was 147 or so. I think I just had bad luck with my stick of ram. I'm sure you've probably already done that with your memory, but just in case...

It would have been cool if I was able to get the fsb to 133 because then my memory would have been running in spec.

Spoooon- My memory is running at 118mhz. I only have generic PC-100, but it is running at CAS2/Turbo/4-way/no delay and I get some pretty good scores in Sandra. I am getting 413/451 in Sandra which I think is good for what I have. I am selling it to a friend soon and picking up some Mushkin Mosel or Infineon... I was able to hit 122 but it was not stable. If I can hit 1037 without a GFD, I wonder what I could do with one....

Got my GFD. Now my 550 core is running at 700 at default voltage with no problems so far. I'm going to see what I can squeeze out of it by upping the fsb a little bit more.

well.....its not entirely stable (its due to heat, i know it), but using SOFT FSB and H-oda's L2 cache utility, i'm up to a 123mhz bus. That's 164mhz CAS3 ram too :)

Yeah, I know what you mean. I was able to boot into Windows fine at 122 and run benchmarks and surf, but any games or Prime 95 would crash to the desktop. The system wouldn't lock, games would just crash to the desktop, and Prime95 would get "Round Off" errors...It is so frustrating 'cause everything in windows worked perfect...Oh well.. It seems the KA7 handles FSB bumping the best generally, but rancherlee is running at 119 on his K7pro... Imagine if you could hit like 140 or 150, that would mean a 280-300mhz DDR FSB!!

Insane...
My Annihilator 2 would lock with any oc playing UT, MCM2, etc....Voodoo 5500 did it too before I returned it...Have pulled CPU out lots of times...but never was too interested in what core I had. One day I decided to look, and did notice that big gap between the cache and the heatsink, so I did a nice job of cleaning the chips, and put enough thermal compound in there to fill the gap. Now I can play just about anything oced with no lockups. Usually run around 220 core, and 360 mem. Was like night and day. Must not have been video card after all! I use the latest Fast Trak drivers...and I/O is at default(3.30).
As for bus OC....took my GF off and ran 750 at host clock...could only do 114 FSB..855 mghtz. stable.
Sorry it took so long for reply...hope u read this!

I got a k7-700 at 123 perfectly stable but the memory should stay at FSB...Finally i left it at 114 with the memory at FSB+clock=143 MHz at turbo and CAS2 settings but it crashed sometimes under 3D loads. So I'm checking with CAS3. The overal peformance is still better than at 123.

By the way the memory is Crucial Micron PC133 2-2-2 CAS2 (not the one reviewed at some web site recently).

cabojoe- Thanks for the reply, I figured out my problem with Vampire. That game does not like the AGP aperture size to be at 256mb. I kicked it down to 128 and it was fine. I have 118 rock stable now, and I have been running the Prime95 "torture test" for almost a week with no errors or lockups... I have not decided to crack the case yet, but I am sure I will sometime...Thanks...

Brotherman- What board are you using? I had a similar problem with the KA7 boot up process...
