I'm looking to upgrade my parents computer, which currently has an Abit BX6 R2 mother board with a celeron300@450 with 256ram.

For Christmas I want to buy them a new processor, just so my dad can deal with some large sound file editing.
What is the highest processor I can get for this motherboard, and the most stable (so keep it at 100fsb) for everyday use (no overclocking).

Thanks!

Hi,

Apoppin fitted a celeron 1.2 in his bx6 rev 2, you can read all about it here

I fitted a P3 750 in mine, and others here have fitted P3 800s.

Hope this helps.

:) Any PIII up to one gig will work with out a problem after you flash the bios, a friend of my has the same mobo and had no problems with a slot I pIII 850. Or get a slotkey and you could use any of the PIII flipchips which are cheaper than the old slot one's . It say only 750 on the bios but it gives you the mulitpliers to go higher especially if you use a 100fbs pIII

I run in this board a P III @ 1050 mhz @ 150 FSB completely stable in a Seti@home full sesion . So i asume that for you a P III 1000 can also be stable 100%. ;)
Awesome board .
