Higher tax rates on the rich kill jobs.....really?

HomerJS

That's all we've heard as an excuse not to include a rise in tax rates for people making over $250,000. It will kill jobs. You can't punish job creators. You have to lower tax rates on the rich so jobs can be created.

But wait a minute. We have the rhetoric of the GOP and then we have a pesky little thing called facts. Take a look...

Now I'm not nor is anyone else arguing a return to 90% top marginal rates but a small but modest increase in the top rates as part of an overall plan to help the economy a job killer? Don't think so.

A small modest increase won't fix the debt problem. Not only that, it won't come CLOSE to fixing the debt problem. Let me clarify, it would be like trying to raise the level of the ocean by pissing in it.

But lets take your suggestion. A small modest increase as you stated is implemented. We still have a 1.4 trillion dollar shortfall. Now what?

Hell they would just raise spending by the ammount of money that is generated. DC has an addiction to spending. Until we get an air tight balanced budget ammendment nothing will change. Both sides will spend us to hyper inflation or bankrupcy.

Stupid chart, stupid premise. Biggest driver of job growth is macroeconomic grown (GDP or whatever you wanna denominate it in), you should be looking at the residual after you take that out.

There's a whole bunch of econometric models for payrolls - a proper comparison would look at the leftover jobs growth not explained by the model compared to the marginal tax rate.

find a way to fix the housing market. when middle class have more money in the pocket they will spend. middle class is hurting because of this housing market. people should be able to take advantage of these ridiculously low interest rates.

The purpose of this stupid chart is to refudiate the stupid premise slightly higher tax rates on the rich kill jobs. I can't help it if facts are a pain in your ass.

How to fix our economic problems is another discussion.

The loopholes and low taxes have been in place for well over 10 years especially during this last "Recession" that is supposedly over with.

Where are all the jobs the so called job creators have made?

Oh that's right, in China, Mexico and all other points other than in the U.S.

Hey job creators, get the fuck out of our country.

Sorry, your chart does nothing of the sort. You are reaching conclusions simply not supported by the evidence presented. To support the kind of conclusion you're trying to get to, you'd need to study the effects of the upper tax brackets on job creation by isolating a bunch of factors, plus you'd have to actually define "creating jobs". There are studies that have tried to do this, but the little chart you presented is worthless.

Lower taxes haven't created any jobs for the past 40 years. The rich enjoy lower taxes, lower costs to their operations (outsourcing) and some even enjoy subsidies.

The swine fingermen of these forums will squeal and scream how it won't do anything to tax the rich. Instead, the solution is to take away programs that are out to help people stay off of drugs, leave a life of crime and violence and keep kids occupied with after school programs.

Oh no, we can't have any of that! We should let society rot! Keep those who "worked hard" for their money keep that money!

These filthy pigs either hope to be somehow rewarded in "fighting for the rich" or they just want to see the poor suffer. I can't believe some of these shitheads willingly open their mouths and accept this type of crap from the greedy rich.

If what you say is true how can people claim higher rates on upper marginal tax brackets kill jobs. Works both ways "don't it"?

This doesn't prove the taxes being raised on the rich will help anything either.

A per sales tax will solve these issues. One of the biggest problems is the number of people claiming from the system and not paying into it is growing. Add that to the fact that all the bleeding hearts want every illegal to benefit from our freebies too.

We need to shed our poor, they are crushing our country.

Didn't say that. It only shows slightly higher top tax rates don't kill jobs

That's one of the biggest problems? Do you have a source showing that it is one of the biggest problems?

I wasn't aware that a simple fact of logic needed referencing. Simple logic. If more people are on drawing the system than are paying in, it doesn't take a math degree to figure out that you are in a losing situation. Half the workers in this country pay no tax already.

Clearly, in your case, we probably should be paying for these services. It's easy to tell when you are off your meds and your after school programs are shutdown resulting in too much free time.

Oh, well, if you say it is simple logic, then by all means, it must be true. Nevermind the fact that he said that 'the number of people claiming from the system and not paying into it is growing' and theoretically if more people are paying in overall, that wouldn't be a problem at all. Nevermind the fact that he is claiming it is one of our biggest problems, and that claim alone is extremely far fetched. Nevermind the fact that we don't know for sure that more people are 'claiming from the system and not paying into it' or how fast that number is growing without sources.

Taxes need to go up and spending needs to be cut. The time for either one or the other passed long ago. I know no one wants to hear that because its crappy for everyone. Fortunately, our "leaders" are paid for shills that exist to facilitate an orderly looting of the countries remaining assets so we'll continue to ignore that reality for now and probably until the country collapses and riots occur.

That's really just treating a symptom, not the root cause. The housing market isn't recovering because the job market is horrible which means many people can't afford houses and even people with money are to scared to spend it because they feel like they might get laid off tomorrow and need it.

I agree but instead of talking about those evil rich people, how about everyone get some skin in the game and we stop having people who pay no income tax. This fulfills the taxes go up requirement. If everyone was paying in, instead of only about half of us, then revenue wouldn't (at least shouldn't) be in question anymore.
