OK, I just threw down on a new LCD monitor to replace my beautiful 19" Flat-screen Trinitron CRT which is awesome in every way except for heat displacement.

It took me a long time to work up to 800x600 in games from 640x480 and now I have painted myself into the 1280x1024 corner. I am going to have to live with this resolution no matter what. I think I have the system to support all games out now at this resolution but I am still not sure if I made the right move.

In any case, the giant 19" monitor can pump all that heat loving into the basement where it's needed and not in my tiny little bedroom.

Has anybody else made this huge jump in resolution and felt good about it? I mean heck, my 19" did over 1600x1200 but it didn't mean I had to use it and in fact I used 1024x768. I have to use 1280x1024 on the new one or it will not display properly.

Opinions?

i went from a 17" CRT 11** x 7** -> 15" LCD 1024 -> 20" LCD 1600

i had to upgrade to a radeon 9700 pro

and every game i play supports this res except for starcraft and warcraft

any sprite based games will probably not support this res unless they are new

i will never go back to a lower res or smaller monitor again

what do you usially run you monitor at?? that 19in CRT what was it displaying your desktop as?

I run dual 19in CRTs. they both do 1600x1200 @ 75 Hz. I used to have a 17in CRt and it would only do 1152x864 @ 72Hz. now looing at anything smaller then 1280x1024 is painfull.

I run games that i can at 1600x1200 and if my sys cant run them at that i go down to nothing lower then 1024x768

That's good to know mchammer187.

I wanted to go with a 15" 1024x768 LCD because I like that resolution in most games but none of them had a fast enough response time. I really wanted 16ms or less and that is what I got.

On this 19" I run the desktop at 1024x768 and I run most games at the same resolution unless they are older and then I run them at 1600x1200.(Quake2 is an excellent example)

Actually the new LCD that is on it way to me is a 17" job. All these companies claim a 17" LCD is equivalent to a 19" CRT because I guess they aren't allowed to play that same "19 inches but only 16.5 inches viewed" type stuff anymore. :) I really don't know.

It's only a 17" LCD. The 19" is my old CRT. :)

I went from a 14" @ 1024x768 to a 19" @ 2048x1536. The only problem is that the refresh at that resolution is 77Hz for my monitor, and 60 Hz for my video card (damned Powercolor Radeon).

I run at the highest resolution that I can get 100Hz at. That's 1280x960. I'm still waiting for 2048x1536@240Hz, but I don't know when they'll release that.

Monitor companies need to get on the ball.

I've been doing fine at 1600x1200 @ 75Hz. Lucky it doesn't bug me I guess. My monitor will do 2048x1536 as well, but at 60Hz too. Everything's really tiny and blinky!

nope, still not true:p 19" crts are generally 18.1" viewable. so the lcd manufacturers are full of sh*t:) an 18" lcd is equiv.

Are you kidding? I went from 1280x1024 to 1920x1200... most games support this resolution (although SWG doesn't!!!), and it's a pain because i really do need to keep up to date on the latest hardware, otherwise it's worthless. If i had to do this all over again, i wouldn't bother... i don't have the money to really keep up with the latest in great videocards and the highest CPUs.

EDIT: forgot to include my monitor is a Sony GDM-FW900.
