I was previously using this opteron 165 on a different mobo with the stock heatsink and thermal paste and was getting like 40 celcius load at 1.35 stock volts and stock speed. I got a new motherboard and cleaned the heatsink with isopropyl alchohol and applied about 2 rice sized blobs onto the heat spreader. Now i get 46 celcius load on stock everything. I added a 7900 gt into the system since the previous temps with the stock heatsink/fan would this be causing the 6 degree difference? or is it that i need to let the arctic silver 5 thermal paste sit for a week or so? If i do this will i see a big difference or should i remount the heatsink?

The AS5 does need about 200 hours to cure. During that time, you should let the computer cool off to room temp at least once a day. After the 200 hours, your temps should fall 2 to 5 degrees. Although I followed this procedure and didn't notice a temp drop myself.

It's possible you got an air bubble because you used two separate blobs of AS5. Artic Silver says to use one blob in the center. That way, it will spread without any bubbles. You could always clean and remount if your temps don't come down.

The vid card could definitely add to your temps.

For comparison, my Opty 165 overclocked to 2.6Ghz is about 30-32 at idle and 46 at load. But I don't have a powerful video card.

ya and its in a q-pack. Could it also be that the new motherboard reads the temps differently?
