High Voltage Winchester beta tester

She's prime95 stable. I've been running 2250 at 1.5 volts, but I got pissed and cranked her to 1.65 and I'm finally able to run 2400 stable.

This is on air with a Thermaltake Silent Boost K8.

I'm going to see for you guys if she fries or not. I don't really care because this chip is a pile of crap anyway. I'd be glad to have to buy a venice, it can't o/c any worse than this thing.

Oh, btw temps are 52-53 under full load.

why would it fry? i bet that chip will run for 10years at any voltage your motherboard can throw at it

Well, this board goes to 2.1 volts, so I'm not sure about that.

Currently I am running 18% over stock voltage, most would consider this very high voltage for air cooling.

Only time will tell 🙂

Go, go, go.

I've been curious about this ever since I got a Winny. Running at 1.6V scared me a little so I hope you prove me wrong.

Ya 1.65 on a Winnie isn't *THAT* high..

Some guys over a@ ExtremeOC had 1.75 and such, couple guys lost their Venice cores @ that..

1.65 should be just fine..

I've run my Winchester abd ny Venice up to 1.8v on an XP-90/TOrnado.........

2.8Ghz onthe Winnie, 2.9 on the Venice

For how long?

Cbehnken, bump up to 1.7v and see how high you can get.. Your temps are still reasonable.

My stupid board won't let me go that high. :|

I'll give that a try tonight. I'm also going to try 2T to see if there is some weird issue with my memory controller.

You know, I'm running a mobile Barton and 1.75v is just where the fun starts. I'm so used to having high voltage, one if these days when I get an A64 I might just end up frying it the first day. 😛

What's the default voltage on the barton?

The winchester default is 1.4

The default for destop barton is 1.65v. The mobiles can run on 1.45, but since I'm OC'ing I always use high voltage.

yep.
I'd say the fun starts at 2.0v personally, but thats just me.

2.0 on 90nm or the Barton...??

Either way, you are on your way to a dead chip.

The Barton
and actually, I ran it 24/7 for a couple months watercooled like that, and even (later, after I sold my watercooling) at 2.2v on AIR. 2.0v will most likely shorten the lifespan of the Barton, but not by enough to matter - on the cooling it was on, I bet a couple years.
