High triglycerides - am I going to die soon?

I just got the results of my annual physical. I was sick when I submitted my urine/blood samples, so I wonder if that could have skewed my results. I never have any values that are outside the normal range.

Someone in the medical field please tell me what these mean - these are my flagged items.

BUN/Creatinine Ratio: 30 (high) normal range: 8-27
Triglycerides: 194 (high) normal range: 0-149
HDL Cholesterol: 39 (low) normal range: 40-59
Crystals: present (abnormal) normal range: n/a
Mucus threads: present (abnormal) normal range: n/a

OK - that thread made me feel a little better. When I was sick (i.e. when the samples were taken), I wasn't exercising, but I was still eating my normal high-protein diet. According to WebMD, it sounds like that might cause it.

Wow, I started this thread just looking for some casual advice, but instead I found the Source of all Wisdom; ognabor is its name! I feel truly enlightened! I'll definitely know who to ask from now on when I encounter such perplexing mysteries such as: "What is that stinky stuff on the bottom of my shoe?", "Does 10lbs qualify as bulk?", or the ever popular "Will I really go blind if I do that?" in a word no; should you be concerned, possibly. my cholesterol and triglycerides are way above yours and i take medicine for it everyday, dont stress too much. just talk to your doctor

I think the first one means stop cheating when you lift.

i have high tri's, it can skew results...but only a doc would know the whole story.

My wife reminded me last night that I forgot to fast before this physical, on top of being really sick when they took the samples. I'm pretty sure that would skew my results.

I hate to brag on myself too much, but I'm generally in great shape, so it came as a shock to see any elevated levels.

My triglycerides count was 420, so I don't think that you are going to die... Granted every person is different, but still.

At 194, a doctor will prescribe a better diet and exercise. At 300+ they'll put you on something like Tricor.

You will not die, but elevated Triglycerides contribute to an increased risk of heart attack.

Also, High Tri levels are mostly genetic, and often don't appear until your metabolism slows, usually around age 25.

Cut out the sugars & cheese & high fats. Hydrate yourself and exercise. You'll probably drop 30-40 pts.

Also your HDL cholesterol is too low, which is common for High Tris. This is bad because this is the "good" cholesterol. This contributes to liver disfunction, but not at your levels.

I would be more concerned about why your BUN/Creatinine Ratio is elevated. That can sometimes be an indicator of the onset of kidney problems. It may be nothing, it could be erroneous test results, but I would definitely discuss it with your doctor. Possibly get retested just verify the results.
