High Temps After Laping!?!?!

I have a 1.2 Athlon running on an Abit KT7A. I am running MBM 5.07b for temps. Unfortunately, I am cooling using a laped/ASII Cooler Master DP5-6H11. I even put some ASII on the temp probe found under the CPU. Just running the Pinball game on Win ME I get temps of 30C case/55C CPU. Just writing this and running ICQ I'm at 29C case/40C CPU. I am not overclocking and I have seen overclocked CPU's running cooler. Any advice for this novice? Thanks!!😱

Did you do the lapping? RU sure that the bottom is flat and level across it's surface? Doesn't sound like it is. Is the HS installed correctly? How much AS did you use? If the HS was properly lapped, all you need is the "thinnest of thins" coating of AS on the CPU core.

What MichaelD said and... Did you lap on a flat surface like a piece of glass? Did you use emery paper or polish?

Used 600 grit paper to lap on a piece of precision flat stone (used to calibrate instruments). Cleaned off Athlon and heatsink with alcohol. Rubbed a very small amount of ASII into the heat sink surface using a new plastic bag to protect from contamination (oil in hands). Wipped off any excess with lint free cloth. Applied very thin layer onto Athlon and seated heatsink. The CPU does seem 1-3 degrees cooler than before the laping. How cool should I be running if the case temp is approximatly 29 degrees under low load (browser or Pinball)? Thanks.

Not being familiar with your specific HSF, I can't comment on what your temps should be. A 1C to 3C temp drop from lapping is fine. Reading your method and results tells me you did a good job.
