High speed USB floppy drive?

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a high speed USB floppy drive. I got a Mavica not too long ago, and I'd like to speed up the process of copying the pics to my desktop or laptop. Since the Mavica camera has a 4x floppy drive, maybe there is one for USB as well.

*Cough* - "High" speed floppy drive?

Well, for a start USB isn't that fast either - OK, it's 1.5 MB/s as opposed to 80 KB/s, but then, Floppy-drives don't need Windoze to run propperly.

Floppies are a "fallback" thing. If you want "carry-storage" I would recommend an IDE/SCSI ZIP-drive or so. JAZZ drives are too unreliable.

But as to your question - I've not heard of such a thing & doubt anyone would make it.

Hope this helps :D.

Ok, perhaps I should phrase it "higher speed" floppy drive.

shathal - The Mavica camera that I have takes pictures on a floppy disk, so a zip drive wouldn't do anything for me. I want to speed the process of copying pictures from several disks to my computers. Therefore, I would like a floppy drive faster than using the internal floppy controller. USB would seem to be the most likely way to do this.

I know that many companies make USB floppy drives, but what I was wondering and haven't been able to determine from reading the specs, is if any of these drives operate faster than a standard drive.

I know Buslink has a USB Floppy drive at Best Buy, although I currently do not remember the price.

They still all operate at the same speed. How about transferring through the network? Doesn't stop you from having to load them the first time vai floppy but after that it shouldn't be too bad. Also, copying them in DOS. They seem to transfer quicker when you are tlakign about a lot of little files. Not sure why windows wants to drag its feet so bad with a bunch of little files.

Well, I am figuring that since the floppy drive in the Mavica itself is a 4x drive (it only takes a couple of seconds to write a 500k file) that perhaps there are similar drives available externally.

I always transfer pics thru the network after they're initially copied, but it is the initial copy that takes so long, and that's what I want to speed up.

I may take 20 disks full of pics at some particular event, and it takes forever to copy those disks to whichever machine I happen to be copying them to.
