A friend of mine is moving to France to teach English and is a little concerned about getting high speed internet access so she can keep in touch with us back here in the states. Last time she was in France, she had trouble finding any high speed internet, but it also could have been cuz she was using a campus network.

Does anyone know if there is good high speed interent access in France, more specifically in the Angers area?

Thanks.

If you don't know anything about France, don't reply. I don't need anymore dumb responses.

The obvious answer is, yes. Most of france AFAIK is pretty well up on technology, similar to the US, if not a bit further ahead.

I know a guy on a different board who's stationed in Paris, and he's got high speed and plays Xbox Live on it. No A/C though.

From the map, it pretty much appears to be in the middle of nowhere, but the city itself has 150,000 people, so there should be some kind of HSI.

If you think it was a retarded question, then it means you aren't really familiar with France and you're showing more ignorance than me. Angers, despite being a large city, doesn't seem focused on technology like modern Paris. I know when my friend attended the university they had a computer lab that consisted of maybe 10 computers whereas the university i attended had at least one computer lab in every building. Thanks for all the tcing.

I know she can get dsl in some locations in Angers, but when she was there before, it was slow for broadband and probably close to dial-up connection speeds. Although some companies claim 25mbit connections, i doubt it as it's only been a couple years since she's been there. So what i'm looking for is an informed opinion from someone in the area - not someone that's lived here in the US their entire life in their mommy and daddy's basement.

Is their a cable connection available? She doesn't plan on getting a land line and with how spread out Angers is, I doubt she's going to be within range for a good dsl connection.

Sure, make it sound like OUR ignorance is to blame:laugh:

When I was took a class in Toulouse and later travelled around Europe, I used my laptop with a wireless card. I got broadband pretty much everywhere, until I started heading east, at which point I had to use cybercafes.

France is one of the most competitive broadband markets in Europe
lot's of ISP, it's pretty cheap and they have very fast connetions (ADSL2+, 24Mb)

you can check the availability here if you got a telephone number, postal code of Angers is 49000

broadband check

xDSL technology is dominant

the biggest providers are Cegetel, Club Internet, EasyConnect, Free, La Poste, Nerim, , Neuf Télécom, Tele2, Tiscali, Wanadoo (Orange).

IPTV is also popular as an addon on broadband

for 35 euro/month you can have a 18Mb ADSL2+ internet connection + IPTV service + VOIP

Are you an idiot? it took me 3 minutes on Google to find this:

Dumb Idiots click here.

Since mid-September (2002), Angers has been benefiting from ADSL-type access to the Internet, reinforcing the deployment of the new economy in a urban area which already has a broad cable offer... There's no end in sight to the progress the tertiary sector is making in Maine-et-Loire.

Yes, very much so.

yup and how...

and yes most of Europe has 10x faster highspeed than we have in the states..

the states is almost a 3rd world country when it comes to up to date communications tech..
overseas has better high speed internet, better cell phones, (and networks) faster wireless already accepted..
