I know very little about cameras. But I am highly interested in graphical performance and I would like to start recording high speed video capture of computer games. What should I start looking into first? Where should I go for reviews? Any particular models I should be reading about and comparing?

Casio has cameras going up to 1200fps, Nikon 1 series 400/1200fps (with corresponding loss of resolution). In all cases, you will need to crank up the brightness because at those kinds of speeds the resulting output will be pretty dark.

doesn't fraps do all of this?

No. Read VC&G threads about TechReport. FRAPS is simply not as good as actually capturing end-user experience because it takes its data midway through the graphics processing chain, and not at the end.

You want to record a video of you playing a computer game with a camera? Capturing an LCD with a camera always ends in very poor quality compared to capturing it from the source....so why don't you directly capture your output signal and record it?

Most high frame rate cameras will be out of your budget, and the ones that do high FPS in your budget do so by binning down the resolution, for instance the Casio can do 1200 fps, but at something like 90x4 resolution.

Perhaps elaborate more on what your end target is, so we can better understand what would help you achieve that.
