I believe they can deny her the actual diploma, but her records would have been recorded in the states educational system and she has graduated. The piece of paper isnt necessary to graduate. I could be wrong but I would think that her academic work is recorded somewhere other than at the high school in order to make a legal diploma.

they can deny it to her. but that will not last long. She will threaten lawsuit and they will cave.

IF the school is as bad as they say then she was right to bring it to everyones attention.

The good part is this will not effect her ability to go to college. She has all the credits needed to graduate and now there is NOTHING the school can do about it. Besides proving her point that the school sucks.

lizardboy, what the hell do you contribute to this forum besides a whole lot of arrogant BS? I just took a look at your posts, 90% of them are thread crap, 'R' or some variant, or you playing wannabe mod.

You're not funny. You're not even clever. You think you're sarcastic or witty, but you're not. I implore you to come up with something, anything original or thought provoking to contribute to this forum, instead of regurgitating the same old jokes, insults, and so-called witty banter that you currently rely on like a paraplegic in a wheelchair.

Until you're capable of original thought, stay the fvck out of my topics, you worthess nef.

Pretty impressive, you skimmed through 1237 posts in 15 minutes. Good to see you have so much free time you can waste it reading through my old posts.

Why skim through over 1000 posts when a small sample of 20 tells me that 18 out of those 20 are worthless?

go hang yourself with an extension cord you pathetic sack of turds.

WTF? does posting a PM to the topic help your cause?

If anything you just gave him the winning blow showing how emotional it's made you.

Just a hint rather than saying someone has never been right, or how they are wrong now...show them why you are right.

I think you are saying the same thing I said. They can deny her the actual diploma but she has graduated and earned a diploma, she just doesnt have the sheepskin.

Too fvcking bad. She may be totally right, but it's not the forum for it. When she was elected (assuming she was) to be valedictorian, she was elected that way so that she'd give some cushy speech about how great things are. Some things surely were. So, instead of focusing on the positives of the life of those at the school she instead focused on the negative and attention whored herself, while upsetting a lot of people. She sounds like a selfish bitch and did the same thing that michael moore did that time.

you kidding me? she worked her ass off and earned the right to say whatever the fvck she wanted. how many opportunities would she get to reveal the degradation of the school to fellow classmates and their parents.
It wasn't her place. It was not the forum to say it and she was being a selfish little brat by talking about it at that time.
So you support them not giving her a diploma because she excercised free speach?
She'll get her diploma. But until then it's good for her to feel a little fear about it for being a little bitch.

If that's the case, and it doesn't actually matter, since she'll still be able to say she graduated highschool, go on to university, etc. then yes I think they did a great job denying her diploma. She basically FUBARed a valectorian speech and seriously tainted a graduation ceremony to get her point across because she knew that she would have some time in front of the mic. It was thoroughly classless. She made her point, and now the school can make theirs, and then you move on. It's such a typical thing for an 18 year old to do. I'm sure she thought that she was in the right and "screw the man". I remember being dumb and 18 too 🙂
Its always a right time to speak out against bad conditions.
No, it's not. If you're a cop telling some parents that their kid just died in a car accident is it a good time to illuminate the fact that their car is parked illegally in front of their house?
IF the school is as bad as they say then she was right to bring it to everyones attention.
Oh come on, besides the four principles in four years, the rest is just opinion and an opinion many kids would have of any school in the country. She decided to dwell on the negative instead of the positive in a speech that is well known for the latter, and such is expected from it.

I love it when someone uses a platform to tell it like it is

 for Bill Cosby and  for Tiffany

The socialistic public school system needs a major enema

"We live through this struggle day in and day out, and she was just using her voice to talk about it on her end," one teacher said.
but the students were definitely in support of her," the teacher said.
but said students were applauding her daughter's words.
The school has had four principals in four years,
Someone could easily get evidence for that. Others statements could be deemed opinions.

The Education Dept. seems to be against her and what she said, and thinks she should apologise, while the majority of the evidence suggests support for her, though not from the "top".

Saying out loud the things that troubled the students should not be punished. If she insulted someone, that's another problem. but it looks like she just said what was wrong during the years. She did no wrong, why is she punished? And what reason they have to deny her diploma?

Yeah the girl was definitly a attention-whore... I totally agree with Skoorb there.

HOWEVER... she did have the right to say whatever the hell she wanted... and for the school to get into a vindictive power struggle with a 17 year old is not only pitiful, it is indicative of the sorry state our school system is in. The correct response should have been,

"we encourage free speech among our students, we are sorry she chose such a negative message, but we welcome any criticism, and are doing what we can to address hers, and anyone elses gripes. "

They would have then said what needed to be said, and could have gone on being as crappy as they want. By making a big deal out of reprimanding the girl.... they just look like oppressive idiots.

Sometimes the truth hurts. The school should take into consideration what the student said and figure out how they can fix the problem.

good for her, but that was just a dumb thing to do. Sometimes you just gotta know when to keep it to yourself. I mean, didn't she already write about it in the school paper ? She could've urged students to show the paper to parents if she really wanted to get her message across. Doing it at a graduation speech when you're supposed to be the top student in your class is not the right time.

bah. she legally graduated according to her State's rules. The only thing she doesn't have is the piece of paper she can frame.

her school admins = suck

How can you say she did no wrong? She was elected to give a valedictorian speech. She abused that responsibility by furthering her own personal agenda and personal opinions. I suppose that you'd have no problem with Bush giving one of his speeches and half way through breaking into a sales pitch for a new kitchen appliance that he's invented.
I mean, didn't she already write about it in the school paper ?
Yes, but obviously people didn't care, so she had to keep neffing until somebody paid notice. Typical of a spoiled teenager.

Wow, strong words just because someone felt strongly enough to speak out on what they felt was a problem with their school. Judging from this girls involvement in the many school activities just maybe she was truly concerned about the state of the school. Maybe she has younger siblings or friends still in school and she wanted them to have a good education. Maybe she had been ignored by the school administration and felt that by addressing a large number of people it might affect some change. But then again maybe she's just a whore starved for attention.

Since when was valedictorian an elected position?
Since when did schools not prescreen graduation speeches? Mine did...you had to submit your speech ahead of time so that they could make sure there wasn't anything inappropriate in it.
