I just wrote an essay on this, its still in roughdraft stage...
Sadly, racism still exists in today?s culture in a form that is harder to notice. Clashing cultures and ignorant minds cause some people to give up the opportunity of meeting new people. Today?s students seem to stick merely with their ?click? or ?group?, avoiding the possibility of new relationships. Martin Luther King?s dream of rating a person by their individual soul instead of their skin tone fails to be fully existant in the beginning of the 21st century. My school years should not be a relevant source in this very broad topic, but should be a mere reflection of how the issue has touched me.
In elementary school there were very few racial differences; the school was mostly white. I never thought of a difference between blacks and whites, other than their skin tone. Middle school was a great change there was a lot of racial variety, yet everyone seemed to be extremely close. This could be because of the small enviroment, or the lack of ?groups?. In middle school there was no real ?click? or anything like that, which is another reason for more social interaction. Middle school was a great experience, and helped me to realize the minute difference between various races. High school is different?
As you well know, I currently attend Booker T. Washington. Booker T. is known as a racially ?mixed? school, however this is not all it is cut out to be. For example, if you take a class that is 50% black and 50% white and allow them to sit anywhere in the classroom you will find the two races to be quickly separated. Ignorance causes this group of people to separate and stay with their ?culture? and what they are used to. This problem is not only confined to the classrooms, sport activities, assemblies, buses, the cafeteria, dances, you name it and most likely there will be separation of races. I most definitely think schools should be integrated, but not in this manner. It is not up to the Administration to fix this crucial problem, but it is up to every single individual to help see this issue resolved. Thus, it will take time, just as slavery being abolished, and schools being integrated did; there is nothing wrong with hoping.

Students need to take the extra step and strike up conversation with someone they would usually ignore, trying there hardest to give every individual a chance. Stereotypes and closed cultures need to end. It is very sad that racism is still alive in today?s society. With this being said, it is more the reason for everyone to help get rid of it. To end racism in the workplace you must first stop its beginning, the younger children. If everyone would wake up one morning and ignore any racial barriers, and accept different cultures, the world would be a better place for everyone.
Sadly, racism still exists in today?s culture in a form that is harder to notice. Seeing racial separation is ignominious, considering that only ignorance is causing separation. This is a very hard topic to write about, and an even harder topic to fix, but with everyone?s support it can easily be overcome. Most people would say the topics I discussed as petty adolescence kicking in, but I know it is something deeper. Subtle racism is as bad as blatant racism.
