I have been here a while on anandtech, but have never found any hot deals, until now.
I was in need of a powersupply(for a friend) and I just happened to be at coolcases.com looking around.
I noticed that they have the 300 watt herolchi powersupply for 20$.
This PS has been reviewed more then a few times lately and everyone is saying that
it is very powerful for a 300watt, and very solid and heavy.
Newegg has them for 31$ +6$ shipping. Directron has them for 32$ +6$ shipping
So I thought this was a steal of a deal.
Here is what newegg customer reviews say about it Here It cost 5$ to have one of these bad boys shipped to 48180 (at my work at least)

AGI300
AGI HEC-300AR-T - 300w is the model #, it is the first PS on the link below

Linky

BTW I do know that coolcases has stellar reseller rating coming in at 10.0 for six month and 9.68 lifetime
(I just checked it out a last night)

That's a pretty good deal. Sounds like a great PSU too. I'm in the market for one and I think I'll pick this up. :)

I'm really tempted by this one. I usually stick to the well proven names like antec and enermax, but this one sounds like it might be pretty good for the price.

Yes , tomshardware mentioned it as one of the better ones, this thing is heavy and solid, it sure seems like a good PS.
I cant remember where but I just read a review that had one of these in a computer case and they said it supplied very steady power under load. After looking around and researching I just found out that compucase started making these things to go along with thier cases(antec uses compucase as thier own brand(well most of thier cases I am sure), the only diff is that they put a door on the front of it), and if thier cases are any judge of the PS quality, then they must be great PS's

I purchased my chenbro genie jr. back in day from coolcases. Great seller here, answers the phone personally if needed, etc. I still have their case badge on the case actually:)

Hmm, Newegg's Allied 400 is $30. The Anandtech shootout makes it seem like a pretty good unit, about as good as a quality brand 350W though.

What do others think? I'm running the $20 Enhance PSU (listed right below the AGI300), and it's working well, though I do have tons of drives, and the voltages shift a bit. Also, two PSU calculators estimate that my components should take ~340W...I don't know how my system is still running ;)

MrCodeDude is unfortunately right... most all of my motherboard manuals state they need at least a 350 watt now.

300 honest watts, with little or no voltage drop may be better than a light unit labled 350 or 400W

This is exactly the same as the old Antec PP303XP model.

A few years ago, in the Pentium 3 era, this power supply was a good value for a (then) modern system. Today it's underpowered for anything more than an everything-integrated system. It does not compare well to something like a 300W Sparkle, Delta, etc. It "might" be the equivalent of today's Antec SL300.

To clarify, it's NOT a bad power supply, but it's not really a deal either, worth about $20 these days. On pricewatch.com you can find Sparkle 300W models for $22 delivered.

Under the hood (170K).

Edit: Sure it'll power more than an everything integrated system, but it's a known fact that the lifespan of a power supply drops significantly when it's exceeding roughly 70%. Hopefully a system will run fine, but if your motherboard dies and the power supply still works, are you going to realize that the motherboard might've been an innocent victim?

Hmm
Well, I can say that I have my friends machine running off of one just fine with 1700+ OCed to 2.0 ghz two 120 gig 7200rpm wd hdds(in raid),geforce ti4200 1024 of pc3200 ram 52x cdrw 16x dvd rom and a few large fans. I ended up swapping out a powerman 350 watt for him(which is the same as sparkle) , he has not had any problems with his boxen as of yet. The reason that he swapped was that his powerman was getting a little old and he wanted the p4 connector for his abit NF7-s.

I don't know what you guys are talking about; just get a good quality 300w ps and you should be fine. I have a liteon 300w ps that was fine for my system. 1700+ oc'ed to 2.4, 80gb hd, burner, dvd drive, radeon 9500 clocked to 9700 pro and a bunch of case fans.
