Hi, I work for a lighter distribution company and we would like to have the ability to print out great looking color pages of new products we get in. I am looking for something around $2500.00. It does not have to be fast nor will we be using it to print out text documents. It just needs to be able to print out accurate, sharp, beautiful color images. Can anyone recommend the best printer for this type of job that is within our budget. Thanks.

The best quality I've seen is from the Xerox Phaser XRX8200. They run around $1700, we have one for our work group (about 40 people) and it's excellent. It uses solid ink (dye sublimation) instead of expensive ink or toner. We buy the ink cubes from a place called Media Sciences I believe....much cheaper than Xerox. Any how, once you see the output next to a color laser, you'll understand.

dye sub is still the gold standard for color computer imagery. Due to the way it "prints" there are very few colors or shades that it cannot produce. Of course, it generates a fair amount of heat and takes a fair amount of time to print compared to say a laser.

PC World did a test report of their top ten colour lasers.

The Xerox 8400 seems the best of them for your price point. It even seems you can get two!

We use a Phaser 8400N and a Phaser 7300DN in our office. The Phasers are excellent color lasers, and the cartridges will cost you a lot less in the next few years than an HP would.
