another vote for Canon digicams at that price...as for the DVD players, I'm sorry to say that I haven't been keeping up with that segment of the market 🙁 (Panasonic maybe?)

$40 dvd player? would it play burned dvds?

These days $40 DVD players will do damn near everything.

I too haven't kept up on them, been quite a while since I bought my last player (Panasonic RP62).

Unless you have a specific need for a pricey DVD player a cheap one is probably the way to go. Every player I've owned ($200 apiece) has died after ~2 years.

So is it safe to say that putting more money into a digital camera would be a good idea, or are they also for the most part the same?

I dunno about which DVD players are good, but my Samsung is a piece of junk. It skips often and the VHS that came with broke the day we got it.

I own a Yamaha 5 disc DVD player. It also came with a 5 speaker system. My bro got it for me for my birthday a while back. The dvd player can't read burned dvd's. The speaker system rocks though.

My friend bought a 20 dollar dvd player from Wal Mart and reads all his burned dvd's.
