My roommate and i for the new school year are moving to some on campus apartments, with some more room than the dorms. we're replacing our POS 20" zenith tv..... what do you guys recommend? a high end Sony Wega 27" tv, or some Mid grade RCA/etc 32" tv? moving it in and out won't be problem i think.... so that concern shouldn't matter much... we play a lot of console games, and watch a lot of dvds....

Yuck don't buy RCA go with the Sony.

There's a reason why the RCA is cheaper and that is because it is.

Quality over quantity... always

Get the VVega, it's a really good brand.. and it is backed by a reliable company, Sony.

Besides... don't you think that the flat screen on the VVega and its color makes it extra sleek?

I'd get a 32" Toshiba or 32" JVC.

But that is just me.

27" Wega, baby. Just like mine. Don't buy the high-end 27" unless you really want/need the added features, I know I had no desire for the extras (better filter, PiP, etc.).

But I love mine. Paid $400 for it used from the guy I also got my 20" from.

I might get a 32" Toshiba over the 27" Wega myself, but it depends on what you're looking for. If you want the best picture and don't care about size, get the Wega without question. If you want a little bit more size, with still one of the best tube-based pictures out there, then Toshiba is for you.

I prefer Toshiba myself, but the coolness factor of a Wega counts for extra when you are in college. :)

And for God's sake, avoid RCA like the plague.

A TV is not a disposable device. You buy a lemon and you're stuck with it for years.

I'd go for peace of mind with the Sony. But if you put Toshiba, JVC, Panasonic on the list I'd go with the cheaper of those.

Also RCA = Zenith = Suck.

Toshiba and Panasonic make excellent TVs
I actually prefer them over the Sony TVs in general.

Sorry, but in my book Sony != Better. Is it quality equipment? Yep. Is it better than anything else, hands down? Nope. That's Sony marketing dollars buying some of you peoples opinions IMO.

I would go for quality - the 27inch Sony

Funny, I have a 19inch RCA I bought in college in '93 and it still works great as a spare TV for kid shows for my daughter. I have moved it to many places and it has never given me any problems.

Most people would disagree with me but I'd take the lower quality large one. Its the same as how I'd rather a crappy 19" than a high quality 17". I just like big things.

Now if we're talking about breasts quality over quantity any day but we're not. We're talking about televisions.

Skoorb, I wouldn't want breasts that are discolored in certain corners after only a year of use if you know what I mean :p

Edit: meant wouldn't

I've owned nothing but Zenith for 12 years and have never had a problem with them.

27" sony over a cheaper 32" any day. The resolution and quality of goods. I've never had a sony tv freak out on me.

Okay... some of your opinions have swayed me a little... but now looking over the selection i've gotten a little confused once more....

32" Sony Trinitron $700

27" Sony Wega $700

Although Toshiba's version of the Wega has gotten my interest because of it's price.... what do you thinK? Pictured here

Do you watch DVDs? The 27 inch Sony Wegas and up (don't know about the ones lower than 27 inch) support anamorphic DVDs. That alone is worth the extra price!

I have a 27-inch Wega and it's really nice. If you have a good quality cable tv connection, it really does look amazing!
