I too came in hoping for a hand held fan with a nice flashlight built in.

Although I am disappointed that is one really nice flashlight.

Friend --

This weekend, our family will join millions of others in celebrating America. We will enjoy the glow of fireworks, the taste of barbeque, and the company of good friends. As we all celebrate this weekend, let's also remember the remarkable story that led to this day.

There are those who said that we couldn't make an LED flashlight this bright. I said Yes We Can.

My uncle bought me an L7 digital. Its OK, but not beastly enough.
I got a 6 D-cell Maglight. I keep it in my truck in case I need to put a medium or small animal out of his misery.

I have a 6d Maglight - and had it in my car but I've been told in CA at least it's probably not wise to carry it around by several people. I never bothered to look up if there was a law about it cause I got a G2LED and no longer carry the maglight around anyway.

I'll be honest - I had the maglight more for the novelty/weapon factor than as a flashlight.

Wow 200 lumens from a single LED. Things have progressed since the last time I looked. Makes my G2 + HO lamp seem pretty weak. And short lived. Two hours on high is nuts compared to the P61 lamps insatiable appetite for CR123's.

Its a quality thing. If you ever get the chance to hold one and play with it a little, you would understand. The build quality is incredible, the emitters are picked from the better, whiter "bins" so they aren't all blue like the wally-world lights are. The circuitry is high quality as well, providing very "flat" regulation. This baby pumps out 200lumens on high for 2hrs regulated and up to 41 hours on low - would be very useful during extended power outages, disasters etc.

Besided I think its LESS worthwhile for some people to spend around a whopping $400 for a graphics card to play widdle games on their computer that'll be yesterdays trash in 6months or so.....

It's basically a pointless thing to justify to people that aren't willing to pay for it.

Some guys like to pay for quality and others don't give a sh!t. Others like to drop $400+ on a graphics card or a shed load on car parts. It makes them happy.

My mate bought a cheap LED torch off ebay when we were camping. He dropped it and it broke = no torch for him on that camping trip.

Congrats on the purchase!

Let me know how it is. I have a Surefire 6P and Backup. I never use the 6P but like the build quality and of course I bought it a fair few years before the Backup came out 😛. I like the 1x CR123 that it uses.

I have been eyeing up the FENIX stuff that uses the AA batteries. It would be good to keep one but I keep a 2-3 spare CR123 in all of my bags as backup, yeah I know overkill but hey 😛

The E1B is a beast. I can't tell you how many people I have impressed the hell out of with it. Always in my pocket.

The E2DL is in my bookbag with a F04 diffuser, and that thing is awesome as well. Not as awesome as the E1B but close. I'm curious how the LX2 and E2DL stack up against one another. I'm tempted to sell the E2DL for the LX2. Although I'd rather get the A2L 😛

I'm interested in the A2L as well if they have the Yellow-Green LEDs availabe, just for the coolness factor 😉

I'm also waiting for the LX1, I'd like to see what it puts out. I've had the E1B as well and may get it again if I don't care for the LX1. The black E1B with the Defender tailcap is a sweet setup.

Fenix FTW

I carry a Fenix P1D on my keychain.. That thing has saved me so much time and effort. It's amazing to pull that flashlight out - no larger than a C-cell battery - and put out the same amount of light as a 4 D-cell maglight.

lol, my brother gave me a cheapass (I think it cost him C$4 in Taiwan) LED flashlight. It uses 4 AAA and has 12 LEDS in it. No fancy drivers, just one leg arranged to a bushing to the middle and the other to ground the casing. Simple and effective.

I promptly returned the 3W LED MAG flashlight that was C$30 +tax.

maglite is junk. 3 watt if you hook it up to the mains maybe😛

Oh snap!

This is like all those people that call themselves "audiophiles" spending thousands of dollars on cables that scientifically don't perform any better than the 1/10th of the costs ones. Fool and his money...

bs. the cheapie plastic light isn't worth bothering with. the surefire is expensive because its compact and tough. using regular bulb is more delicate and eats batteries. using lithium cells makes the whole its only 10 bucks bit pointless when its no longer cheap to feed the damn thing. you are better off getting a high output led emitter and wiring it in if you want to go down that route. candlepower forums probably has threads for helpingw ith such mods.

and no, this stuff isn't comparable to audiophile junk, this is easily measurable.

The lightoutput is measurebly better, the amount of time it emits light is better and the output is consistently at the same output for more of the batteries life. Plus in some people it uses CR123 which has a longer shelf life. Waterproofing also.

I'm not saying you can't get 80-90% of the quality light for less but you might not get the exact build quality and specifications without paying full whack for it.
