So I have been looking to put some 101-octane fuel in a car I have, for fun. Anyone know of places other than airports to get this stuff?

Live in LA area.

Thanks

Is there a specific reason why you want to? Are running a high-boost tune or something like that?

Putting high octane gas into an engine that does not require it does absolutely nothing for performance.

If you know what you're doing and need high octane racing fuel, here's a list of dealers in California where you can get it:

unless your car is tuned to use it, like 996gt2 said, it will have no impact whatsoever

you also can't get it at airports. last i knew avgas has more lead in it than, well, leaded gas (for cars).

As others have said.. unless you're tuned for it you arent getting anything from it.

Also, you cant get it at airports because it is illegal for them to sell you AvGas for a car. 100LL (Aviation gas) also has a lot more lead than you want to use in a car...

Check for race tracks/drag strips in your area for race gas

AVgas 100LL has about 4X the lead of the old leaded fuel we used to get and the formula is basicly wrong for a cars engine anyhow... Its formulated for high altitude and long shelf life (great for a generator or something that sits alot)... While it will work in a high performance engine its not the best solution for sure... In a modern auto with cat it will ruin it in a short time so dont even consider it...

BTW some airports will sell it to you to put in a can but some wont unless you have an aircraft...

Sorry higher octane gas has no benefits at all for an engine not designed and tuned for it. Actually it can run worse.

Yes it will, it is just the impact is actually negative. High octane is simply resistance to burn to prevent detonation. If the engine does not require high octane it can actually loose power because the fuel does not like to burn properly due to the lower compression ratio and the ignition timing that are tuned for a different fuel. I have witnessed the power losses on a dyno by simply putting high octane fuel in an engine that made previous passes on pump gas with no other changes.

Yep, it makes a difference. The bar meter goes higher when I run 101 :)

Thanks for the info.

Few places that sell it. The 76 on cheesebro in aguora hills, it's on the east bound entrance to the 101 has 100 octane. Alliance gas station on Corbin and nordhoff has 100-110 race gas 8/gal I think
