When I boot I have running; my Antivirus (PCcillin) and Creative control pannel and my MS Intellipoint in my system tray nothing else. I have 256MB of Crucial CAS 2 PC133 and after I boot up I only have 176MB of memory left.

System Config..
Thunderbird 900Mhz (No O/C)
256MB Crucial PC133 2x2x2
Creative GeForce 256 GTS
Monster MX300 (Aureal Vortex 8830)
Kennwood 72X True X
TDK Velo 8x4x32
Netgear NIC

I have been using MEMTurbo (to recover RAM) to get me through till I find an answer to all of this. I am starting to regret getting an A7V should have bought the MSI board I guess. I have found entire web boards dedicated to the A7V and the trouble people have with it. Does anyone know why I am using up so much memory and it is not realeasing it??? Half my memory gone after boot is BS!
Thanks
Icy

Go to Run and type: msconfig
Go to the Startup Tab and give us a list of what starts at bootup. Also give us a CTL-ALT-DEL list.

You could also run Wintop and see what's using the greatest resources.

As I remember, memturbo itself burns up 20 or 30 megs of ram. Windows 98 manages memory much better than w95 so memturbo or similar products are not as effective I have read.

Memboost programs suck. They eat up any advantage they give by using the resources themselves.

Here is the start up list
ScanRegistry
Task Monitor

Pcciomon.exe
Pop3trap.exe
Webtrap.exe
Creative AGPwizard

I realize that the mem progys eat up resources themselves but that has been the only way that I have been able to reclaim any RAM. After I multitask a few windows my system slows WAY down. Then I used the Asus Util. to check out the RAM usage and that is where I found the problem.

I guess I hesitate because this install is only a few weeks old, but I guess I will start there.

Okay..about your startup list:

ScanRegistry....leave
Task Monitor....leave
System Tray....leave
Load PowerProfile....If you have everything set to Never in P.M. then you can disable this.
Hpscanmonitor....Scanner?....Disable it in the programs properties or here if it's not there. (put an icon on the desktop)
Stillimagemonitor.....As above, Disable, put an icon on the Desktop to reactivate, when you need it.
Vortextray...? S.C.driver proggy? Disable it in the program unless you have to have it running.
Pcciomon.exe...?
Pop3trap.exe...Virus Scan...leave
Webtrap.exe...?
Creative AGPwizard...Does this have to run?
Blstapp...?
BCTweak...?
Pointer...mouse utility?
LoadPowerprofile...As above (double entry)
Pcciomon.exe...? Why is this running twice?
LoadBlackD (BlackIceDefender)...Leave
Memturbo...Disable

Pcciomon.exe.Pop3trap.exe.Webtrap.exe Blstapp. BCTweak...

Find out what program these belong to, then go into them and try to disable them starting unless it's critical for something.
If you reinstall all this, nothing will change, you need to check into every one of these, as it's quite obvious that your ram is being eaten by all these programs starting and running.
Can you run Wintop from the Link above so we can see which are the worst offenders?

Oops too late on the reinstall, but I am glad I did. On a fresh install of Win98SE with system tray and explorer running only I use up 90MB of memory right off the bat. This is with the latest Promise and Asus 4 in 1 drivers installed. Do I have a bad MB?

Would running my Kenwood CDRom Drive off of the primary IDE/66 and my CD burner off of the secondary/66 controller be messing me up? I have my 2 Maxtor Ata/100 drives on the Promise controller.

Thanks for all the help I really appriciate it!
