Just wondering if anyone has any idea why my 165 is idling this hot. I'm using the stock heatpipe heatsink and even at stock speed it idles at 40°, but under 100% load only gets up to 48° after 8 hours of SP2004x2. I've tried the stock thermal pad, some AS1 that I've had for a while, some ceramique borrowed from a friend and put on a high flow Panaflow with the same results. Checked the base of the heatsink when taking it off and it looks like it's making good contact and centered. Running it on an MSI K8N Neo2 with 1C3 Sideeffect BIOS. Could the BIOS be reporting the wrong temps? C&Q is disabled. I turned it up to 2250 @ 1.35v last night and temps only went up 1-2 degrees at idle and full load.

Those are pretty good load temps for the stock heatsink.
I wouldn't worry about it if those load temps are acceptable for you.

Thanks jlbenedict. That's why I can't figure out why I'm showing high idle temps since the load temps seem very good. Airflow in the case is good....NB shows 27° and both HD's are 24°. I'm not going to worry too much but seems everyone else is getting much better results than this.

what is your room environment like?
I've noticed sometimes, depending on the temp in the room, that it effects the temps in the case as well.. but thats obvious information..

Room temperature would indeed be a good piece of information. I'm also using the stock HSF (see sig) and idle temps are around 33-35°C with a room temperature of 23-24°C. Under full load it will hit ~45°C.

Room temp is 69-70°F. It's sitting inside a desk but I've got a 120mm AC fan pulling air out the back of it. If you feel the case it's very cool to the touch.

ive noticed my bios always reports a higher temperature then the Asus Probe. Also note, when you first boot up your pc, the CPU gets a big surge of electricity thus a hotter startup temp than when it sits idle.

Scitex, try taking your tower out of your desk and stand it on top of your desk instead. Maybe you'll get better temps that way. I would not worry too much since you mentioned that it does not hit 50c on full load.
