High end PC power supplies, which brands should I be looking at?

I read that the PC Power&Cooling ones are king, but these are quite expensive. Are there some nearly comparable brands to this? I am looking for this to power a future Thoroughbred. Thanks

Sparkle/Fortron
Delta
Antec
Enermax
HEC (Heriochi)
Zippy/Emacs

I've used various older Antecs (235-250W) and a couple 330W Enermax PSUs, and have been satisfied.

Based upon what I've read, if I were looking for a new PSU I'd consider the recently introduced Antec TruePower series (330W and up) and also the HEC/Heriochi PSUs. NewEgg carries both brands -- you'll have to look under "Compucase" to find the HEC PSUs.

Leadman/PowMax are also supposed to be good, although they don't seem to be as common.

Also, keep in mind that although PCP&C is a good company with good support, they don't really manufacture anything. They sell rebranded 3rd party products, and provide their own support. If you're willing to pay a premium price for above average support, it may be worth it. But I question how often (if ever) one would actually need support for a PSU...

I prefer Antec, but have had good luck with Enlight also. I have a PC Power and Cooling supply on Grendel (see sig). It's their 350W model. The voltages, as reported by the BIOS, are not very tight. The +/- 12V usually runs about 11.7V. The 5V is usually about 5.3V. However, the system runs great so I don't worry about it. This may be normal, but my Antecs are much tighter than that.

I use PC Power in my system, nothing else.
I don't have the problems others have from running a good power supply.
I learned the hard way don't skimp on the Power supply.

I just bought an Antec True Power for someone I built for, a 400w and it seems to be of very good quality.
Antec would be my second choice and will save you about $100.00

Try the True Power 550watt PS. I just recently put one into my main rig and it is noticably quieter than the Antec PP303X 300watt PS that I had in there previously.

Agreed, those PP303X PSU's are VERY loud, so are the rest of Antecs last gen of PSU's. The new True Powers are extreemly quiet.
