High end options for Tmobile -- beyond Nexus One?

So, my ATT iphone contract is expiring, and as much as I'd like to get off ATT and Apple, the 4G looks pretty good in comparison to the current Android based phones.

Anything coming up on the near horizon for Tmobile?

Im in the same boat as you are. I really wish they picked up something like the EVO or the Incredible, or even the Droid 2, but thats wishful thinking. I really dont want to switch providers but I might have to

Samsung Galaxy S? That's the next major product that should be coming for T-Mo pretty soon.

Also, depending on the area you live, keep an eye on Tmobiles HSPA+ rollout. The cities with that running full bore are getting VERY high data speeds.

Samsung Galaxy S? Nice. I didn't even know about this phone. I was worried Nexus One was the only option. Looks pretty thin and specs looks comparable to the current Android phones like the Incredible. I almost broke down last night and came close to ordering the discontinued Nexus One. Now I will wait for Galaxy S before deciding.

Wait till June 19th at the least, Naustica. T-Mobile has said something big will be coming. Now that might be a Galaxy S announcement, it might be something stupid, or it might be excellent pricing on smart phones (the most popular rumor). At any rate, its only a week and a half away, so I would certainly wait till then at least.

Galaxy S is looking very good. While it hasn't been confirmed, retailers are already receiving POP material for it.

The OP should have plenty of options by the end of this month.

If your contract with AT&T is expiring, why are you only looking at T-Mo? Shouldn't you have the option to go to any carrier you wish? Plenty of excellent phones on Sprint and Verizon right now.

Yes, the Galaxy S looks like a nice phone. I'm sure T-Mobile will have some good stuff coming within the next six months, depending on how long you're willing to wait.

Well duh, the Snapdragon platform doesn't include a GPU. :p

MUST WAIT LONGER!

Do you guys know if there is a fone in the works with a processor greater than 1ghz?

Most assuredly. Having said that, many OMAP 3430/Cortex A8 designs available no easily OC past 1GHz. Many Moto Droid owners routinely run at 1.2GHz. I run mine on a 1GHz low voltage kernel.

The HTC Mondarian is rumored to be 1.2GHz, but I think that might have been shot down.

There are newer processors from Qualcomm on the way that are considerably faster - higher clock speeds, dual core, etc - so its inevitable that they'll work their way into devices, if not by the end of this year, early next year. Snapdragon isn't that impressive these days...it hit the HD2 back in September.

a bit off topic.
How much longer does your phone run? Build it yourself or what it found on XDA or another forum?

Depending on use, I can get anywhere from 15 to 21 hours out of it. I got 21 hours today, but that was with only a dozen texts or so and a few emails. When I'm at home, the phone is always connected to my WiFi as well. Using the phone heavily sucks the battery down fast. That screen is a major power sucker, after an hour of web browsing, the Battery Use stats will show the Display at 95% of the power use.

I was using Bekit's kernels, picked up at Cyanogenmod's forums, but recently switched to jdlfg's kernels instead. His run at 1GHz/400Mhz, but the 400Mhz low end uses as much power as the 250MHz low end of Bekit's. This keeps the phone more responsive when coming awake from sleep.

Primarily total cost of ownership.

Right now, I'm on ATT with my iphone and a usb dongle for a cool $160/month. The wife and her retired mother are on a separate Tmobile plan for another $90ish. I'd like to get everything together, so I did some number crunching.

2 '3G' phones, 1 dumb phone, unlimited text for family, not factoring the costs of phones themselves, nor taxes and fees:

Tmo 1500, no contract -- $3105 over 2 years
Tmo 1500, w contract -- $4065 over 2 years
Tmo Unlimited, no con -- $4185 over 2 years
ATT 2100, w contract -- $4382 over 2 years
VER 2000, w contract -- $5029 over 2 years (work discount drops this ~$4500)
Tmo Unlimited, w con -- $5361 over 2 years

Another factor against Verizon besides being so costly is the no simul talk+data; my company issued Verizon BBerry drives me crazy with that limitation.

I'm leaning toward Tmo over ATT since in Tampa the speeds are very comparable, and Tmo explicitly has no data caps and is somewhat cheaper.

there are also many many discounts you can get and use even if your not part of X company as long as you know the promo code. Since your mother-in-law and wife as with tmobile you should cut down least on 100 minutes alone by joining tmobile.

$102.85 is my total for 700mins 3 lines, unlimited text, 2 "3g" lines, mind you think is after all the taxs and extras. But i've been with them 4 years.

so 2468 next 2 years.

TMOBILE isn't that great EVERYWHERE however. About the ONLY downside. i know certain areas of FL they are great and some are spotty. Same here in IL, chicago is strong but out in the burbs stinks. I hate the fact that when i have low edge signal my friend next to me with a blackberry off ATT has strong 3g. The iphone is a diffrent story.

How can you not factor in the cost of phones? That is a VERY important factor. You aren't comparing apples to apples here. Tmo No contract means you are spending quite a bit on phones. If you figure two smart phones and one low end phone you are looking at a minimum of $700 and more likely around $900-$1000. That is a huge upfront cost difference and pushes the pendulum back towards the other carriers. Also take into account that with Tmo's no contract plans you can't really get any corporate discounts. Whereas, with the contracted plans of all the other plans/carriers you can get anywhere from 10-18% monthly discount if you do a bit of research.

I'm not factoring them in at this stage, since I haven't chosen the phones. Most under contract are ~$200; without contract the price varies quite a bit, for example last night Bing had significant cash back with tmobile phones.

June 19th at T-Mobile, with a contract I'm willing to bet all smart phones are free, if not SIGNIFICANTLY discounted. Verizion/ATT often run BOGO deals on Smart phones and with the right negotiating and looking online you can get tremendous deals on smart phones with a contract.

Samsung has a very poor history of pushing android updates to end users so far, I dont know that I would trust them for the future.

If i'm plopping this much money on a device, it sure as hell not be ugly. In this day and age there is NO REASON that we should have to compromise on one or the other. Especially when other companies can easily do it.

That being said it doesn't look that bad, I thought it was going to look the same as the Behold II
