I'd appreciate any input regarding 19 or 21 inch monitors for my new state-of-the-art system I'm building. Thanks!

I would go with a Sony or maybe a Nokia. I have a Sony 420 GS (19") and it's simply awesome. A friend of mine has a 21" Nokia and it is very nice too . . .

the sony GDM-F520 is the best monitor you can buy, but it is like $1,500. Or the nokia monitor already mentioned for like $1000. Those are the best

Samsung Syncmaster 950p 19 inch. Have worked long hours of videditing on this one... Perfect quality..

Samsung Syncmaster 1100 21inch model. Haven´t seen it in action
yet, but for the rest of the series, I have nothing but praise:

Have worked on:
700p (2 of them)
700p plus (2 of them)
950p

Other good brands are Eizo and Sony.

Chuck:

I own a Sony GDM-F520. With Dell 20% discount/ no shipping and tax. It comes to about $1200 flat.
Corner to Corner Aperature Grill Pitch .22, simply superb.
The best feature of this monitor is the "landing" control. ANY discoloration in the corners are prompltly resolved.

The "Landing" should be a standard control on all monitors.

Your Eyes Aren't Replaceable.

You will have to decide on Invert Shadow Mask or Trintrion/Diamontron based. I've used both extensively and can tell you without
a shadow of doubt, the Trinitrons/D are brigher and more colorful (using G400) as a base. But you'll have to put up with TWO
DAMPER Wires, which some people can't stand it.

But after many research and self-use, I've finally decided brighter and accuracy of colors (white is ACTUALLY white, not grayish - which bothers me even more so than the damper wires) are more important. Using BNC with Silver Serpent from bettercables - ($80!), Adobe Photshop 6.01 - I can say that I'll never go back to ISM - only if you care to nick pick.

The ISM is very good for everyday use. But you said "state-of-the-art" so here I"m.

Actually the Nokia is $400 at costco. You can read about it in the hot deals forum. It's a very nice monitor.

Iiyama Vision Master Pro 511. Look at the specs, and then compare prices. The best price/performance for a monitor in it's class.

Why pay big bucks for media hype, and a brand name, when you can actually be spending the money on a superior piece of equipment?

Iiyama Vision Master Pro 511

It is worth every penny. You'll pay far more for a similar monitor from a company like Sony.
