I'm assuming some of my games are freezing because something in my computer is too hot. I have a P4 2.80 GHz w/ stock heatsink + fan,
5700 Ultra w/ stock heatsink/fan,
1gig Ram (timing is nothing special),
ASPIRE X-Dreamer II case, which has 3 good fans on it (side panel level with cpu, top of case, front of case).

Is it the ultra 5700 that is causing the freeze? should i get something like this:

?

What temps are you getting? If you posted you're temps, we may be able to isolate the problem, rather than guess.

I just had HL2 freeze on me and its been 95 degrees in my house lately. Plus my chipset always idles at 45-55 degrees at 7000rpm. I need some sort of better cooling solution. Till then i have got a pci fan that will put some air down there.

Get some AS5 and put it in under the chip. It should help. I've applied AS5 to my CPU, chipset, and thinking of applying it to my GPU.
