Hi

I am in the process of buying a new monitor for my new computer.

I have been swayed from a 17" to a 19" back to 17"

i wanna make a thread(this one) that has pros and cons of both monitors.

I dont want to spend more then 200 bucks including shipping.

currently, i am interested in the
NEC FE791SB-BK 17" SuperBright Diamondtron
Samsung 955DF 19"
NEC/Mitsubishi FE771SB-BK 17" SuperBright Diamondtron
SAMSUNG 950B 19"
ViewSonic P70F 17" PerfectFlat

What is the best monitor to get and why? are there any other models and brands i should consider?

TIA

I'd suggest the Samsung 955DF 19". Nice and large, good brand name, and it's got the lowest dot-pitch of any of those listed (0.20 mm). My Samsung SyncMaster 1200NF is the best monitor I've ever owned.

I use the NEC FE791SB-BK 17" SuperBright Diamondtron here at work and it's been great so far. But if you game, I suggest going with more real estate. Get a 19".

i'd go for the mitsu 17". but its just me. i choose quality over quantity. but i really don't see the samsung as a "bad" monitor. just not the best obviously.

Check prices at local stores- you might save some money without without having to pay shipping! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

19"! way more spaces for the money!

I would go with a better 17 inch over a 19 inch. Quality is better than size. What good is size if the picture sucks? And a cheap monitor will start to go on you quicker. Average life span of a cheap monitor is only a few years before the picture gets hazy, color's go wiry, brightness dims, or the thing just blows out. You may be buying a new comp every few years but monitors last much longer tech wise so long as it doesnt start to die.

Honestly, I went with the ap grille because they are supposed to have a superior picture. When I pulled the monitor out of the box, set it up and fired up my computer I was a little anxious. Got to the desktop and started searching for these mysterious 2 lines. Couldn't see them. Started surfing and on white backgrounds I could see these 2 super fine greyish lines, spaced about 7 or 8 inches apart horizontally. I was admittedly a little annoyed. But once I started using the computer, I just plain forgot they were there. Like I said, I never even see them unless I read a post about them--that makes me consciously start staring at my screen looking for them.

Ditto. Normally, I never notice the aperature grille lines... they're thinner than a human hair and probably not even opaque since the surrounding phosphors kinda bleed over. Like everyone said, you can only even see them if they're on a really light background. It would be very hard to find them while playing games or watching movies.

All this talk about 19" monitors got my juices going--needed a new monitor for my study so I'm heading over to Worst Buy to snag a 955DF. There's a cheaper base price at newegg, but after factoring in delivery it's only about $4 cheaper than just getting it at the local BM store. :D:beer::beer::beer:

i went to best buy thursday to look at the samsung 955df
To me it was very dull looking, but then again all the tvs look dull there because they use a horrible cable line.

How does this monitor look at home? how does it compare to the viewsonic they have there too, i thought the viewsonic one look better at the store, it was brighter after i pushed the ultrabright button.

TIA
